I just got off a bus and was heading to the store when I saw someone on the sidewalk with a bunch of signs and a clipboard. I made the mistake of making eye contact with her and she basically jumped in my path with a clipboard in hand. She asked, "Excuse me sir, but are you fed up with the current state of this country where mass shootings have become common place?" I nodded my head and answered, "Well...yeah?" and that was enough for her to go off on a tangent.

I had to be back at my place by 4, so I was kind of in a rush and tried to politely end the "conversation". She stuck the clipboard out and asked for my support. I figured if that's what it'd take sure, but the instant I picked up the pen she started spouting out numbers and talking about donations.

I realized she was just trying to hustle me for some cash at this point, so I told her that I'm a bit strapped for money at the moment and of course she began to spin that around into me not caring about the safety of children. I kept trying to just walk away, but I had to cross the street and was stuck waiting for the light and she just went on and on.

She talked about funds helping raise awareness and taking a stand against the big business of the NRA with their lobbyists. Finally I flat out asked how much she was asking for and she looked at me and said "I need about tree fiddy." Well, it was about that time that I noticed that this concerned activist was about eight stories tall and was a crustacean from the paleozoic era. And I said "God damn Loch Ness Monster I ain't giving you no tree fiddy." "How about just two fiddy?" and I said "Ohhhhh! Now it's only two fiddy? What are they having a sale on Loch Ness munchies?" Got me so worked up and almost made me miss the light.

This is the country that we live in now.

i made that mistake once with some girl with a clipboard in a parking lot (she was pretty and a redhead, which are my favorite). she started asking for money for drug user halfway houses. she seemed quite surprised that i didn't want to give her money....

Oh I see what mead meant now lol. I got a text from a school program (scholarship automated thingy I dont quite understand) asking me if I was ready to make a stand and I said no and it said sometimes people are traumatized or shocked but my voice still matters and it recommended therapy/grievance counseling to me

I think the program may have messed up and thought I was closer to the affected area or something?

Its all very sad and Im not debating that! Just that grievance counseling should be more for victims and stuff than someone so far away.

I was approached too. The lady grabbed my hand and pulled me over. It was really awkward. I took a smile and nod approach and then when I said I don't give money to human causes, only other animals, she got super pissy and started lecturing me.

Unfortunately, I'd already written down my contact info and kept getting harassed by this group of people. I didn't want to change my phone number or deal with this crap. My mom had the bright idea to send me to live with my aunt and uncle in Bel Air.

If I ensnare myself in a local conversation with a streetside charity thing, it's my own damn fault. Sometimes I might bail partway through, and yeah, maybe they think I'm rude cuz I was too stupid to not engage in the first place lol
