Correct. Prolonged decibels over 90 or so can cause damaged, 115 Decibels is around where human hearing starts being damaged quickly. 150 or so will straight up burst your eardrums. A bit higher can cause general internal damage and nearing 200 is 100% fatal. 300 Decibel would be instant death with your body likely being completely annhilated. Not too much higher would drive humanity extinct and a bit above that would destroy the whole planet. 1100 decibels would destroy the entire universe. Logarithmic scales escalate quickly

Following up on my own post, didn't realize it was a logarithmic scale. That makes more sense.

Hoo boy. The exponential loudness there by the time you get to 300, then... hoooooooooooo boy.

Thats because its like the Richter scale.

A 2.0 earthquake is not twice the strength of 1.0. Its many times stronger.

Same general idea applies to Decibels. Its a logarithmic scale.

The force of the vibration of the sound wave.

Yes.

Also, lol, I don't feel like standing next to an erupting volcano. I remember that 300 mark from safety training for work.

If anyone wondering how loud 300 Decibels is, the Krakatoa eruption was 172 Decibels.

If you're standing next to something that can make 300 Decibels, you're probably already dead whether or not it's actually making any noise.

Lumens is about the same scale, btw.

You need roughly twice as many lumens to have a noticeable brightness difference So if you've got something that's 100 lumens, you need 200 lumens to easily notice a brightness difference.

shit escalates quickly.

Here is a 70,000 lumen flashlight compared to a 1,000 lumen one. (note, I've got a friend with a 300 lumen flashlight and it's already bright enough that if you point it at someone's eyes they're going to have a hard time seeing for a few minutes)

Cracked one foot thick concrete at 300 miles, created a 3000 foot tidal wave, and heard 3100 miles away, sound pressure caused barometers to fluctuate wildly at 100 miles indicating levels of 190db at that distance from blast site. Rocks thrown to a height of 34 miles.

The loudest ever rocket recorded was NASA's Saturn V rocket, which was said to have reached around 205 decibels.

Its thought that at about 140 decibels we will feel pain in our ears, and being exposed to that kind of sound too much will almost definitely lead to some damage. Sounds of more than 150 decibels could rupture your eardrum if you are close enough.

https://www.theinfographicsshow.com/home-1/2017/10/2/loudest-things-a-person-can-hear-what-will-make-you-deaf

Afaik, about every 10 decibels is pretty much doubling the sound. 44 Magnum revolver, which reaches about 164 decibels, imagine tens of times louder than that, without any earplugs or anything. Apparently, at 140db you feel PAIN in you ears.

300db is louder than...probably anything there is, and 5 seconds would definitely make you deaf for good, if not even cause some other kind of damage or fucking kill you, idk...
