Everyone in the movie had a reason for having their flawed beliefs - it's all a vicious cycle where an incorrect belief about someone gets propagated until it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy of sorts. Crash was the epitome of Oscar bait, and not particularly good Oscar bait at that.
