I don't advocate getting rid of it, but I really don't think things would have been much worse had it not been established in the first place

For the non americans, 2nd amendment is like free speech right?
---
In 2000, Norad had 67 Intercepts, 100% accuracy. On 9/11 they failed 4 times in 1 day. In 2015 over 162 000 refugee's entered Sweden, 494 of them got a job.

Oh my bad. Well the reason for it seems obvious, when you can't trust your government to do their job its up to you.

It also helps prevent women being raped, a woman who has a gun, and knows how to use it is less likely to be a victim.

Keep the people safe is the number 1 job. If you can't rely on police etc. Then i too would want something to defend me and my family with.

The "shall not be infringed" is more where the second amendment is relevant. UK common law includes the right to bear arms, but the US constitution essentially says "You're not allowed to restrict people from owning weapons"

No it actually is not, criminals never follow laws to begin with and get weapons illegally through the black market. Why do you think the law prohibits felons the right to bear arms ?

No, they can buy them legally in quite a few states and no one cares or gives a shit. Also, where do you think these black market guns come from? Thin air?

the second amendment is why we still have the freedom of speech. without it we wouldn't be where we are in the world now.

and you dont need a piece of paper to tell you your given rights as a human being with free will.

I think the USA would be far better off updating the 2nd amendment to meet standards of a modern society. Right now the 2nd amendment is just rather vague and was written at a time when guns were single shot and took time to reload while also being pretty inaccurate.

Irrelevant, had they better weapons, they would've still liked them no?

multishot weapons already existed before and around when the constitution was made along with a lot of conceptions and blueprints for specific arms (belton flint lock, volley guns, nock guns, puckle guns, girandoni rifle, pepper box pistols, multibarrel muskets). muskets just happen to be the easiest, cheapest and most common for everyone to get. its hard to think that the founding fathers didnt pay attention with their own eyes to the technologically evolving world around them when they wrote the constitution. the words "bear Arms" is a big tip off.

The fact that the UK doesn't have a constitution to begin with is a big part of this.

It's not about liking the weapons. Founding fathers thought of the average person as idiots which was a big reason for them making the EC. The founding fathers also wrote the constitution with the concept that it would change over time as well which is also why a lot of things are vaguely described.

But with that together, they probably would of wrote the 2nd amendment differently had there been widespread availability of deadlier guns.
