It had a lot of remakes/ports and a few non-platformers like Mario & Luigi and Mario Kart but I can't think of any original Mario platformers.

Which I think makes it the only Nintendo system to not have at least one.

Mario vs Donkey Kong is closer to classic Mario than not. It's different from Super Mario but that's strictly a different series.

If you look at other games in the Donkey Kong series following Donkey Kong 3, you'll see they're actually vaguely similar in style.

I can't find a good comparison of the Donkey Kong games in general, but here is one that shows Pauline throughout all her games and it goes through several of the Donkey Kong games.

it's a bid odd and kind of a shame

but at least it was still a great system with a great library anyway

It had a ton of ports/remakes of old Mario games so bleh. Making all that shit handheld was an accomplishment at the time. And the Wario post is true.

The closest we got was those e-reader levels in Super Mario Bros 3 Advance, but cuz Nintendo is dumb and made only a handful of them available in the US.

Thankfully the Wii U version brought them back and built into the base game >_>

And now we have super Mario maker and some of those levels can be really fun yet not go beyond smb3 levels of difficulty.
