idk. I think Bowser's Inside Story was the best one, forced mini-games and giant battles aside.

Topic title is true. All of the proceeding Mario & Luigi games painfully holds your hand throughout the game and bombards you with tutorials.

Nah, everyone says how great it is, but it's way too gimmicky. The Mario and Luigi parts are all pretty much the same, and kinda boring, and the Bowser parts don't quite feel up to it either. It doesn't fully feel like an RPG to me. Everyone always hates on PiT, but I really don't know why, it's my second favorite, honestly every Mario and Luigi game get's a little worse than the last one.
The only reason I got Dream Team is because it came free with the silver Mario and Luigi 3ds xl, and Paper Jam just makes me sad to think about it. Dream team has the worst look and engine I think, but they made 3 games in that style, if you include the SS remake. That's the main thing keeping me from getting the remake, I love the original and want to play the bowser's minions thing, but I really hate the way Mario and Luigi look.

Edit: I would really love if someone could explain why BiS is so good. Even having Fawful be the main villain was kinda dissapointing, he was way more entertaining in SS. I guess I need to replay the game though, I honestly don't remember anything other than it being good, but not as good as the first two.

Superstar saga was the best, but bowser's inside story wasn't bad at all.

The others are meh...

You're nowhere close to wrong so no clue why you're sorry.

Beyond Superstar Saga, Partners In Time has terrible balancing especially in the US version, Bowser's Inside Story is just a rushed gimmicky mess unless you REALLY like Bowser or Fawful, Dream Team still has almost everything wrong with BIS but instead of being short and sloppily paced it's a drawn out slog, and while Paper Jam is very solid design wise the presentation is incredibly bland.

I wish Alphadream would take a swing at something else, because M&L painfully needs a break. Remake Tomato Adventure so it can see the light of day outside Japan, or work on a new IP.

Mario and Luigi peaked at SMB2, and that wasn't even a "real" Mario game.

I'm one of the few who actually considers Partner in Time the best game in the series. I really liked the darker story than the rest of the series.

Bowser gameplay was fun (NOT giant battles, fuck that). The final battle was amazing, the gameplay, in general, felt pretty smooth, and I thought the M&L/Bowser cooperation played out rather well.

PiT was indeed a good game, but my biggest issues with it are Bros Items and bosses having way too much HP.

Smoother gameplay (the jumps in SS were especially bad), more modern mechanics (like much less permanently missable items), imo better designed maps, and yes the gimmicks of each level do make it more fun imo. It's not like SS didn't have a bunch of gimmicks and minigames too.

Superstar Saga was better than BiS. Better combat, better world, better puzzles.

Isn't that literally like the 3 main things that make a Mario RPG good? Therefore, SSS is better

Better combat

Hardly. SSS is easy as pie, there's no reason not to just spam the same moves over and over.

None of them are even close to being as good as SMRPG and the Paper Mario games. I appreciate what the Mario and Luigi games did for Luigi at least.
