Movies and TV are just kind of a natural progression of things. TV has been pretty interracial for a while now. It was motion pictures that were lagging behind. They were proud to be diverse when it was a show for which you take it or leave it, but they were reluctant to be inclusive when it came to movies which people had to pay ticket prices for. I'm glad Hollywood is finally stepping up and saying, "You know what? Fuck you. If an interracial couple is enough to keep you from watching a film, we don't want your money anyway." Also, there's a long history of Hollywood pairing black men with Latinas or Asian women to avoid them having white girlfriends. I dislike it when movies and shows gratuitously pair two people together simply because one's a guy and one's a chick, but this is one case where the chemistry feels genuine. If you told me the actors were dating in real life, I'd believe it. That, and as much as I hate forced pairings, I think it's unfair to say "let's not do it this time" simply because the guy is black. If Finn were white, there's a 100% chance he'd be Rey's lover.
