The new revelation emerged hours after the 19-year-old Cruz, a gun fanatic who was expelled from the school, was charged with 17 counts of premediated murder. The Florida rampage marked the 18th school shooting in the first 45 days of 2018. The disturbing tally is more than twice the number of school shootings this time last year. Long before the latest shooting, Florida education officials have been begging lawmakers for more funds toward bolstering school safety.
