Teachers being armed is a good idea, vets who do not have PTSD also would be good guards since they know what to look for, and yes it is a mental health, bullying, and hate the world problem. People are more anti social then ever, there is much less empathy in the world, and way too many people have an attitude of as long as I get mine who cares.

Having a black market on guns is the criminal side that never follows the law to begin with, legal guns have background checks, a form to fill out, and they look you up when you go to buy any firearm as the ATF requires.

the AR makes up 3-4% of gun homicides in the US. its on par with other rifles and shotgun deaths. handguns take up 80 fucking percent and yet the AR is whats always gone after. this is made even more stupid by the fact that there are a LOT of other firearms similar to the AR that get completely ignored just because they dont look the scary part or they arnt as common(but just as easy to get). this is why gun huggers dont ever take the left seriously and why nothing gets done.

The funny thing is that this is a fairly common misconception. Reloading time, even with a low capacity magazine, doesn't significantly impact the number of bullets you can fire in a short time. The thing that actually takes longer is aiming and finding your target.

It doesn't matter what solution you try to bring up when talking about how to stop this, people like TC are just going to shrug it off and laugh about it while just saying "BAN ALL GUNS" like a parrot. It doesn't help that hardly any of them don't even know anything about the thing they want banned. How many times are they going to try and ban "assault rifles"?

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if some people here wern't a little happy when they heard the news because it gives them another chance to sarcastically say "Thoughts and Prayers" for the millionth time while pretending to actually care about the problem at hand

i made a few posts on a few other forums yesterday trying to explain some of the gun communities mentality and how firearms functioned. i was extremely polite and tried to be as forthcoming as can be. i even mentioned that i do support certain types of tighter restrictions.

i was labeled a sociopath almost instantly.

I wonder if its even worth trying to have a conversation any more. maybe we really do need another civil war and be done with it.

Just because you understand Trump and Co aren't going to go all Adolph on the country, that doesn't mean it isn't a common belief.

How common? I don't see it much? And when I do it's clearly hyperbole. He's a wannabe dictator, not an actual dictator. I think most people get that. He's said it himself. He hates checks and balances and wants to have his own way.

At any rate it also conflates various subdivisions of voting blocks. Plenty don't think cops need to be armed, or at least militarized to the degree they are. Others think the military needs to be dramatically reduced so the funding can go elsewhere and we can stop interfering in other countries' business (and that view is shared by some on the right). It's almost like voters aren't a monolith, even as you divide them up by party/ideology.

But if you really think you need your gun to defend you from the government, you're voting against interest if you also vote for the most corrupt mofo around who at the very least will try to do what you're so afraid of. And you're kinda voting against interest if you support the party that wants to continually increase military funding if in the back of your mind you expect that military to come for you some day.

Not my words, but I agree with this.

There are some very smart people on both sides of arguments that are now unfortunately back in the spotlight due to this latest tragedy. While I dont claim to be one of the smart ones, I am certain that most significant dilemmas in our society lack a singular solution. Take for example health. You need to eat right, and exercise, and get good sleep, and have a positive outlook, and have a daily purpose, etc...

To argue your point of view from the perspective that there is a singular solution to this epidemic is extremely ignorant. This will take multiple solutions, multiple paradigm shifts, and look to the past for disregarded practices that may need to become in vogue again. But most of all, we all must be willing to concede something. If we enter the conversation with the mindset that our singular solution is the answer, and are unwilling to cede ground, then we are doomed.

Lets keep arguing, but lets do it with the goal of finding a solution, not simply winning the argument.
