Yet all of the highest body count shootings in history in America are all using a single type of weapon.

I support ownership of guns but feel AR15s shouldn't be in civilian hands, or at least be much much harder to get.

It's only because AR15's have become over produced in the USA.

If it wasn't an AR15 it'd be a Ruger or Surplus AK, I guarantee it.

No.

Guns are not the problem. Guns were never the problem but people like you are so fixated on guns that you fail the see the bigger picture. You can ban all guns in America but suicides are still going to happen, murders are still going to happen, and mass killings are still going to happen.

Stop trying to treat the symptom and start treating the cause.

If you have a disease, generally you'll want to address both, as the symptoms being eased will reduce overall suffering as the disease is treated.

Not only that. I have mental illness. Diagnosed, officially recorded in medical records.

I can walk into a gun shop and buy an ar15 tomorrow and kill 20 people in one shooting by the end of the week(not that I would, just making an example).

That's not OK.

I'm a decent shot. It'd be much harder for me to get that kind of body count with pistols or a traditional carbine than it would with an ar15.

I've fired an ar15 before. You can fight wars with that thing.

Define military grade.

I don't really know much about guns but wikipedia's AR-15 page said "It is a semi-automatic version of the United States military M16 rifle." I guess that counts as a definition?

People were using home made ones. Columbine would have been worse had their pipe bombs actually went off. As intended or not, it would have increased the number of victims.

There was also the Oklahoma city bombing.

And the shoe bomber.

But incidentally, the materials used to make all those bombs are restricted in how much you can purchase, and there are places that still check your shoes when you enter in case there's any illegal items in them.

Meanwhile the closest to gun restrictions we have are scant and only in place as a result of city or state policies.

The only thing the public should worry about is the "bullet types"...
If the shooter had been using armored piercing or FMJ rounds, the amount of people killed would of been different...

Making it harder to get ahold of things used to kill, and limiting them to things that aren't able to add effectively kill will help.

It's like saying "if somebody wants to break into your home, they'll do so. So don't bother locking your door or hiding any valuables."

I'm not saying that there shouldn't be regulations. I'm actually for more strict background checks and maybe even a license if it was done right.

But a blanket ban of a certain type of gun won't stop mass shootings. Especially a gun that has been over produced like the AR15.

Oh, it does. People will want to do it anyway but it will be harder and therefore less people will do it and those who do will be less successful.

You can't say with a straight face that if people attempted these mass shooting with a pistol the results would be the same. Even if you only reduced the casualties by 50%, wouldn't it be worth it?

So where is the line drawn? If it's black? If it's 5.56? If it's fully automatic or semi-automatic? If it has a pistol grip? Magazine size? Buttstock? If it has wood or polymer furniture?

Or is it just if it's an "AR15"?

There's also a problem with this statement for one very simple reason. Every person is stable until they're not. There are countless of these shooters with no priors and no diagnosed mental illnesses. Unless we get some minority report shit irl you can't stop these people.
