Genocide and slavery.

Kinda funny as I'm taking a US history class that focuses more on these darker roots. Pretty fucking disgusting, never expected to read about the revolution and actually side with the British.

What's happening to the country right now is like what happens in Poltergeist when the girl falls into the mud and the burial ground corpses start popping out of the ground. The scene where the guys pulls his face apart in front of the mirror is like a metaphor for the death that lurks just under the surface of all of us as a result, thin enough to be ripped open like a Fruit Rollup. And then in Poltergeist II the old guy that keeps coming to the door is just like the government and media trying to force its way into our lives, obsessed with getting to our children, and it too reeks of the death that lies beneath us.

Well aware. Everyone has a nasty history, it's just funny how the American education system covered so much up. Also explains a lot of things over our history. I'm still glad the US is independent, but if I was in the revolution, fuck yeah I'd join the red coats or run away.

I can't fully agree with that statement.

The Spanish and them really fucked up the natives they found in Mesoamerica and such, but the English colonists did not have the same relationship with the natives they encountered. It varied by region because there were different tribes and differently minded colonists but overall relationships with Natives could be downright amicable. In Pennsylvania the Quakers got so friendly that they gave natives guns to help them hunt large game (the Quakers made many other questionable decisions). In the French & Indian War, both sides considered the Natives valuable allies and traded in exchange for guidance and war aid.

North America doesn't get very genocidey until manifest destiny and westward expansion definitively pushes natives fully out of their home grounds

"Founded on slavery" would be more valid on consideration of Virginia's over-specialized tobacco economy. That said, however, the bizarrely structured, aristocratic nature of the colony is argued to have inspired many founding fathers' favor of democracy. Even then, the Declaration of Independence stressed the equality of all and the FFs had intentions of halting slavery, including putting a constitutional limit on the triangular trade

They weren't exactly buddy buddy in the Chesapeake, but AFAIK it did ramp up around manifest destiny with all the relocations. Up until then it was disease and simple warfare.

Do you think its likely most regions were founded on the premise of egregious violence, genocidial or otherwise? I recall even Native Americans had warring tribes and the winners settled or expanded into the region of the losers. Maybe thats not genocide, but its certainly egregiously violent in many instances.

I just don't see it. That provides no moral superiority to the loyalists whatsoever. It was Roman colonialism, not much different than what happened here in North America. The Franks, a mixture of Italic colonialists and native Celts, achieved independence centuries later.

Unless they had an expedition force ready for the people they'd previously bought and enslaved, I cant imagine for them to get them back to places more in mid Africa like Equiano
