Thought I'd be safe slacking off for a day. >_>

Anyways, Happy Valentine's Day! Let's celebrate with a thematically appropriate Godzilla flick!

Another personal favorite, Terror of Mechagodzilla was the last film in the original franchise. In the previous film Godzilla messed up the alien weapon, Mechagodzilla something fierce. So this time, the aliens enlist the help of Dr. Wily and his pet dinosaur.

But in all seriousness, the mad Dr. Mafune and his cyborg daughter are pretty interesting villains. The former was exiled from the scientific community for his outlandish claims of finding a dinosaur in the ocean. (One wonders why this is so unbelievable given the fifty-thousand other giant monsters in the Toho Universe, but we'll roll with it). And during a lab accident, his daughter was fatally wounded, and could only be saved by mechanical implants.

The dad wants revenge on humanity, and agrees to help evil aliens by controlling the dinosaur he found: Titanosaurus. The daughter is torn between her loyalty to her father, her attraction to oceanographer Ichinose, and the nature of her existence as a machine or human.

It all comes to a head with a double-team matchup with Godzilla VS Titanosaurus and Mechagodzilla. The fight is super fun, but it feels more like a wrestling match than a monster brawl. Godzilla and Titanosaurus use punches, throws, and headlocks, while Mecha-G sits on the sidelines cheapshotting Godzilla with lasers and missiles.

Godzilla is almost down for the count, until the cyborg daughter reveals that the brain of mechagodzilla was built into her stomach. As a heroic sacrifice, she kills herself to deactivate Mecha-G. She breaths her final breaths in the arms of the man who loved her. Isn't that romantic? </3

Godzilla cleans up and swims into the ocean, not to be seen again for a decade. Fun fact, the actor who plays the scientist defeated by Godzilla, also played the scientist who defeated Godzilla in the original film. Since this was the last film in the original series, it seems like a fun little detail that brings the franchise full circle.

Overall, it's a great movie with great characters and a great fight. You couldnt ask for anything more.

Why am I doing this? Because I'm too deep in it to quit. >_>

Today is Godzilla vs Megaguirus. Oh my.

Another plot where humans have finally thought up a plan to get rid of Godzilla once and for all. They create a Black Hole generator with the intent of using it on Goji and letting him be some other dimension's problem.

But their experiements accidentally create mutated bug monsters. Godzilla kills the bugs, and then is rewarded with a black hole to the face. RIP Godzilla. Or is he? DUN DUN DUUUUN

The follow-up to Godzilla 2000, this one is really underwhelming. The plot is barebones, the humans aren't much to write home about, and Megaguirus only slightly less generic than the 2014 MUTOs.

The fight itself is boring, with Megaguirus just...being a pest. He manages to stab Godzilla in the gut but is ultimately blasted to cinders. Megaguirus is basically a "dodge tank" which is a viable strategy in MMOs, but boring to watch in a monster brawl. Godzilla does a cool move where he grabs him, drives him into the earth like a stake, and body slams him.

You can easily skip this one. It's not terrible, but it doesn't do anything special. There was a real missed potential here, too. The main actress wants to kill Godzilla because it killed her commanding officer. Godzilla is summoned because a corrupt government official built a secret plasma plant that attracted him. They could have built a pretty compelling story about grudges and reckless politics, but it's mostly fluff here.

The one interesting detail comes in a post credits scene that reveals Godzilla not only survived the black hole, but somehow escaped back to Japan. It makes for a good "Who Would Win?" feat. Or it would, if there was any continuity in the Millenium Series. Fufufufu

So yeah. Unless you're literally watching all the films, this one is a pass.

So we're rewinding to the original Godzilla VS Mechagodzilla.

Someone in the last topic said they always saw Mecha-G as Goji's true arch-nemesis, and seeing this it's pretty easy to see why. Godzilla gets freaking murdered. He takes multiple stabs and blood is shooting out of his neck. He ultimately only winning by making up a new power, and using his body's energy to create an electro-magnet that immobilzes his enemy, allowing him to tear off its head.

The plot is pretty much just there. A woman prophesied that a giant monster would destroy Japan. This sparks an investigation into an ancient statue and the legend of a guardian monster, King Ceasar. The monster is of course, Mecha-Godzilla, created by shapeshifting gorilla aliens. The protagonists try to unravel the secret of the statue to awaken King Caesar.

Not much to say here, except that King Ceasar may be one of the most underwhelming kaiju I've seen so far. Waking him up takes up an entire sub-plot and full-length song, but he doesn't accomplish much besides buying time for Godzilla to arrive. Feels like it was supposed to be a King Ceasar movie and the Godzilla plot was added in to make it sell.

Also, the movie re-used the exact same "alien has gun on hero, but secret agent shoots him from the shadows " thing like three times lol.
