Is that not how it done now? If not, yes I think that's how it should work. I know that's how WIC was done when we used it and how our boys qualify for Medicaid now.

Remember that "would you qualify to immigrate to America under Trump" multiple choice thing a few months ago? That's how they do it in most states, fill out the info, provide proof of income, and then you get the card not long after some beauracrat visually confirms the proof of income aspect. The "you need to reapply to keep enrolled" thing is automatic and has you generally get a phone call or mail, or both.

It's expensive to run a panel that would review and determine how much you get, plus human biases, plus there's the whole "how would somebody with no money who gets told they don't qualify for much or any at all appeal" thing.

The fact you think that's how it is done shows you havenhavent bothered to educate yourself on the matter, yet you can speak with such conviction on why it's a terrible system. Imagine that.
It's amazing how much you project and can't reign in your emotional immaturity.

I have to reapply for Medicad for my sons based on income. Any change in my income can change whether they can still have Medicad. The only reason it is not a problem with my job now, is I am salaried. At my last job, it was hourly and if at any point I made more pay than was allowed for Medicad, I would have to then reapply, the following pay period and even reschedule their doc's appts if I could not pay out of pocket. These steps are put in there for a reason. The fact that you think that there is a minimal amount of abuse in governemnt programs and that it's all the rich white conservative men in the world, beating down everyone else makes almost every conclusion you come to biased and many times untrue. Which is why you usually go for personal insults and attacks.

Just last year, after two years of apply through mail in surveys, tests, and testimonials for my wife's diagnosed bi-polar and anxiety, we finally got to get in front of a judge for a hearing on getting disability for her. After the hearing, and being evaluated by the state appointed psychiatrist for application for disability, she was still denied disability. And while I am glad that people can't just walk in "I'm depressed" and get a check, it is disappointing we didn't get it. Because she has tried to work and it hasn't been good for her. And guess what? We can try and start the whole process over again, and even request a different judge. Because this is America and that is the freedom and right that we have.

So maybe check you emotions and ignorance about others at the door, before you start spewing your usual bile and bias thank you.

If and only if you have children when you have SNAP that's when there could should be a "limit" of what kind if food you'd buy if you have kids.

But if you're by yourself single you have the right to buy anything with a SNAP card anyway

I'm gonna assume lobster isn't local in your region.

I'm curious though as to how/why you don't eat steak.

I'm thinking A) you don't like it, but you definitely could afford it or B) you can't afford it because the cost of living is expensive in your area, you drive a nice car and your company dicks you around for a $32k salary working 60 hours a week.

My family was very poor when I was younger and relied on food stamps. It shames me to even think about it now. But it gave so little that we were always still hungry and often relied on churches, etc, to make up the difference. Even then there was always a period at the end of the month where we had nothing left and just had to deal with it. Snacks and soda were practically a delicacy. It wasn't something we had very often.

Let me tell you how much it sucked. It sucked so bad that even though I'm poor enough to qualify for it right now, I fucking never would because I don't want to take the resources from a child that might be starving like I was. It still hurts to remember those times.

Which is why I don't care as much about the limitations as I do that whatever they're given that it actually be enough. That's it. I know I would have been happy with healthy food because it's better than literally nothing.

New Orleans is one of the most dangerous places on the planet. Your voter base has proven consistently, for decades, to be incapable of electing anybody who doesnt wind up in federal prison. Ray Nagan basically said that he didnt want white people in the city. Keep electing feel-good democrats and see where you are. the entitlement is for something. and you shouldn't be allowed to spend it on something counterproductive to the reason you got it in the first place as it defeats the purpose of the program.

Not SNAP but a good if somewhat extreme example of what I'm talking about, people who lost their homes in Hurricane Katrina received these emergency FEMA cash cards with regular Visas that was supposed to be used for things like living in a hotel temporarily, food, etc.

Anyway people used them on porn (most didn't, but you get the point). Clearly even if it doesn't affect you (immediately) that someone is spending their allotted entitlement on porn, it could affect things in the future regarding your available limit / eligible shopping areas if this sort of abuse goes on unchecked in the event that you find yourself needing this sort of thing, although I sincerely hope no one here has to go through this shit. It's terrible.

Nah, I'm going to continue hate them for their constant displacement of locals who were majority poor minorities and pissing all over our culture and way of life as well as ensless attempts at sterilizing the city because they aren't from here and means it be as bland and boring as where they came from

I'm sure the endless empty condos where public and affordable housing used to be that only stay filled during Mardi Gras are doing WONDERS for our economy, keeping rent prices high as affordable housing is continually destroyed to make room for condos or gargatuan mansions and work is harder and harder to find due to more and more transplants flooding the city and many don't even hire locals due to their nepotistic nature and hardon for importing labor i.e. bringing in MORE transplants

I just love how you're trotting out every single butthurt driven thing BR locals say about NOLA to try and make themselves feel better about how irrelevant BR is when compared to NOLA
