Check your playback devices (right click sound icon in notification area > playback devices). NVIDIA likes to change this from what it normally is.

this is the short answer but also be aware that sometimes nVidia will try to output sound through HDMI cables even if you don't have any HDMI cables connected.

My TV is still listed as an audio device and I can still select it, but no sound actually comes out of the TV (video still displays).
It is not muted.

The only thing I found online so far is to do a clean install of the the NVIDIA drivers. I just did that, it didn't fix anything.

Try changing the GPU socket you have the cable plugged into.

Why? It worked before, it shouldn't stop working cause of a driver update.

The sound in my monitor speakers still works (connected from my video card as well), but still no sound on the TV.

Can you try unplugging the monitor and using only the TV (reboot the PC so it boots up with only one display connected)

Younus: Right click on Realtek and select disable, then restart PC once.

Bill: But I use those drivers when using my PC speakers. Will I re-enable it at some point?

Younus: It's not recommended to have both external audio device as well as onboard audio enabled at the same time. This can create issues due to driver conflicts. If you prefer to use TV sound, then you have to disable onboard audio completely in BIOS.

Bill: But all of this worked fine a few hours ago before I updated my drivers. I only use sound from my TV when using the TV as a second monitor, which I only do occasionally, and when I do I switch my audio device from Speaker to TV.

Younus: Sometimes it may work and sometimes it may not, but it's officially not a supported configuration.

Only using your TV sound when you want isn't supported? Fuck off.

I can't even get sound from my TV if I disable everything else.

It also pisses me off that the tech support guy says you can't use two drivers, well even though my TV sound isn't working I can still use two drivers, one for my speakers from my motherboard, and I can still get audio from the NVIDIA drivers using the speakers built into my monitor. So that clearly isn't even the issue.

TVs can be weird. You might need to change the port on the TV and if your tv has that smart HDMI stuff, turn it off. Update the TV if it's possible. It could be a weird TV to computer communication thing

I mean my TV still gets sound from apps and Netflix and stuff, I just can't get any from my PC.

I tried a different HDMI port on my TV, didn't fix anything.

Other apps can be talking with the tv just fine but when it talks to.the computer, it could be different. Sending a signal over HDMI is closer to sending data over Ethernet than it is VGA cable

HDMI protocol sometimes requires signals to be certified in order to process it

Like based off what the settings are on everything, and what things say on my PC it should be working like normal, but it's not, so I don't know what I can actually do at this point.

I know but I didn't change any settings on my TV, only updated my NVIDIA drivers on my PC. That is the only thing I did and it stopped the sound from coming through on my TV.

Just unplug everything from each other, unplug from the walls, flip it off, go to bed, see if god touched it in the morning

But if you plug in a another tv and it works, it's the TV doing something.

somewhere there is a setting that is telling your PC not to send audio to your TV but to pipe it out only through your speakers.

In any explanation, try another TV and if it works, you narrowed it to the OG tv, if not, it's the PC

And unplugging everything might reset something. All vague troubleshooting techniques

I FIXED IT

So I unplugged and shut down and disconnected everything.

Unplugging my TV makes it soft reset.

Plugged everything back in.

And it works.

Time for sleep. I already wasted 3 hours of my night on this shit.
