But he essentially did help out black people, by signing them to the team.

I mean they could've just honored the first black signee, and just mentioned him.

Cause god forbid we say a white person did something to help out black people, libs only like white guilting and bringing up the bad white people.

If you want to honour white people why do you need to relate it to black history month? That seems tone deaf. Everything else they did was fine.

Yeah, the left hates stuff like this. They basically want to portray every white person as villain who's plotting to hold down minorities. Guys like this coach hurt their narrative.

It's funny too because they always say how they want white people to join the fight for equality. But then they become furious when someone recognizes a white person like this. They just want excuses to keep being angry.

Was it a good thing that the man did? Yes. But it's not like white people get a pat on the back for not being racist. A lot of socially ignorant people fail to realize this, and you end up with the "my friend is black" or "I don't see color" rhetoric that contributes nothing to the progression of minorities and merely serves to elevate these individuals.

Congrats, you're not actively perpetuating racism. No need to announce that you're meeting the minimum for human decency standards nowadays.

Instead honor the players he picked instead of the coach. They are the ones who probably got the same kind of death threats Jackie Robinson did. They fought the system tooth and nail to get where they are. It's no small feat.

Sports and entertainment are a big deal in America. So if you're talking about black history in the U.S., things like the first black coach, the first black player drafted, etc. are going to be worth talking about. If this coach had a hand in those things, then he's also worth talking about. There's no reason to pretend this coach didn't exist because he's white.

Nobody is advocating for erasure. But right now the lens is focused on the "Brave selfless charitable white man" helping the "poor oppressed weak black folk" when it should clearly be focused on the accomplishments of the athletes.

Now while I agree that they probably should have focused more on the players themselves, it isn't that unreasonable to celebrate the coach as well for his impact.

and without this understanding coach giving them the chance would black history be the same?

no he contributed to black history

if he never gave them the chance and hired them would they be famous?

no they only were famous cause he hired them. otherwise they would have been in the countless unknown people in history.

Because it kills them to admit that there were some good white people that fought against discrimination. If you really want look at all of black history, then you'll see that there were some white people who played important roles in fighting against discrimination. Liberal's bread and butter has basically been to demonize white people and blame them for everything, so when they see a story like the one about this coach they can't handle it.

It's pretty fucking obvious the month is supposed to be about celebrating black achievements and remembering important points in black history. If it was just about people who influenced, what makes it any different from any other month? More importantly, why not just honor the first player to be drafted? Isn't that more so the important event here?

Eh, it's a twitter post. And celebrating allies shouldn't take center stage, but there's no reason to excise them from the conversation. And an evanescent social media post is about an inoffensive forum to bring it up on.

Change ultimately happens with cooperation. They should have left the original post up and then followed up with the next. It doesn't have to be one or the other.

Obviously the coach is isn't MLK, but they want to dismiss him because they say all he did was meet the minimum standards of not being racist. Black people who fought for their own rights are appropriately considered to be good people. But white people who fought for the rights of black people are not considered to be good people, just people who have met minimum standards of decency. I would think that if fighting for your own rights makes you a virtuous person, then fighting for the rights of others would also make you a virtuous person. But the left only sees skin color.
