That is pretty distastefull honestly(how did the film address the aftermath? If the characters learned a lesson about allergies and not taking jokes to far than it wouldnt even be in poor taste) but lol boycotts. Any good parent wont need to worry about this. Explain to your kid that even good people sometimes do things that arent right and sometimes jokes can go too far.

But than again its a Sony movie so it probably is shit...

Oh come on.. It's a movie. Soon every kids movie won't have villains anymore, to "protect" the kids from it all.

It sounds silly, but considering how dangerous food allergies can be it seems really irresponsible to depict them that way in a children's movie. Especially considering what a hot button issue it has been in schools the last few years

The heroes do plenty of dangerous and life-threatening things in kids movies.
This seems like a silly one to get upset about.

They should release a revised version of the movie where there's no conflict and the humans and rabbits engage each other in peaceful dialogue.

This.

i mean Spiderman hangs from the golden gate bridge and does backflips....i don't think many kids will try to emulate that spot on...i can however see a group of bullies find out a kid is allergic to a certain fruit and use that fruit to tease them/hurt them not knowing how deathly some allergies can be...

so while i think it is a bit silly to boycott the movie over this i don't think equating other stupid things heroes to do this is quite the same.

Movie studios need to get their shit together. Do they honestly expect parents to have to explain to their kids the difference between movies and real life?

Just to play devils advocate a bit. I have a nut allergy and have dealt with this my whole life in varying situations. From kids in elementary school throwing peanuts at me to my college roommate getting hammered and "pranking" me by crushing a peanut into my coffee.

Kids generally know that dropping a fucking weight onto someones head or shooting someone in the face is dangerous. But not that allergies can be life threatening. That's why this is bad.

Just my two cents.

I mean... it's a kid's movie that apparently shows being able to harm a kid with an allergy by exposing them to that allergen. I'm not one to jump to blame popular culture for things, but that is a pretty major WTF sequence to feature given that a) major nut allergies are a big deal for a lot of kids, and b) bullying kids with nut allergies is relatively common, especially with younger kids. So, from that perspective, the notion that that shouldn't be in a kid's film doesn't seem that big of a reach to me, especially when it was apparently shown in a positive light.

Did the kids at your elementary school throw nuts at you because they watched a movie where somebody threw food at somebody who was allergic? Or did they just do it anyway?

They threw nuts because they didn't realize it wasn't something right to do. The behavior stopped as soon as a teacher intervened and they saw me go to the hospital. This happening in a light hearted scene in a kids movie makes it seem like allergies are not a big deal.

Kids understand guns kill, that hitting someone with something heavy will hurt them. Allergies are one of those things that unless you have someone close to you with them you don't realize are dangerous.
