The Dismemberment Plan: sounds kinda like death metal maybe, but they are an excellent indie rock band, with some post-hardcore/mathcore elements.

Gorguts might be an example of the name fitting at one point but no longer. They still play death metal but it's way more artsy and meaningful than "GORE GUTZ!1!!!" implies. It makes you think of a generic slasher-themed band in the vein of Cannibal Corpse.
