Obviously, having two Smash games--one of them over 16 years old at this point--at the event for the past three years has been a major point of contention among FGC purists. ...Though having Smash there at all is also a bit controversial, but let's put that aside for now.

A lot of people say that Melee will never be dropped because of its popularity, but Smash 4 is also popular, and the same will be true with future Smash games. Not to mention the logistics of keeping such old hardware around to even play Melee optimally (CRTs, Gamecubes, Wiis, the game disks themselves), and emulation not being perfect even with official means (the VC version of Super Smash Bros.--at least on Wii--had a number of frame rate problems; not a big deal for casual players, but was enough for competitive players to stick with N64 consoles).

Of course, when it does happen, prepare for the streams of salt and pitchfork-waving towards Smash 5/6/7/etc. Even if it does present a faster, more aggressive playstyle which nonetheless builds on Smash 4, as opposed to copying Melee 100%.

I guess it will happen if future installments of Smash can replicate Melee's gameplay, probably.

Street Fighter sequels don't replicate their predecessors' gameplay 100%, but those tend to be replaced by the newest game, reception be damned.

Though of course, this year doesn't have Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite--a first for the Marvel series at EVO.

Because most of the FGC aren't crybabies, man up, and move on to the next installment. Maybe playing an older entry now and then for the lulz

For some reason tho Melee players have to be treated with kiddie gloves

Smash 4 will be dropped before Melee gets dropped just like Brawl before it. Why do you care so much?

All your points boil down to you not liking the game.

Melee and SB4 are pretty much two completely different games.

Unfortunately, same with their respective fan base.

Melee likely won't ever be dropped. Smash 4 is lucky if it makes it next year.
