If I bring over dessert because I want to show appreciation to my host for inviting me, then its considered a nice thing to do. If people want to change colors of the flag because they want to show how they appreciate it in their own unique way, its not coming from a negative place, therefore not disrespectful. If people wanted to change the color of the flag because they want to symbolize how shitty America is, thats a different story. I'd say it's part of the whole point - free speech is not just a right to have your own opinion, but a right to question, debate and attack others' opinions too. I'd even go as far as to say that that's the biggest reason to support it - so that all ideas can be discussed, and the bad ones can be shot down simply by pointing out why they're bad.
