I don't get it.

The rising popularity of Windows 7 most likely has to do with the large influx of Chinese users playing PUBG, which has become the most played game on Steam in recent months.

Right off the bat 10 has a whole bunch of settings that you have to turn off if you want privacy and control.

Some can't be turned off directly and you need to do it via the registry or services.

Then later versions of 10 took away the option to delay updates as long as you want to.

If you let the updates flow as they're intended, they can mess with your system because Microsoft uses its userbase for beta testing. It's just a whole bunch of hassle every time.

In contrast 7 is simple and easy, there's more transparency.

Although the tradeoff is security and performance. For most people though it's like....."nothing's gonna happen, I'm not going to this site or that site, I'm safe".

I agree the updates for Windows 10 are hit and miss, they tend to bring back old bugs or create new ones, but Windows 7 wasn't much better in terms of privacy. You still had to turn a lot of crap off.

There is a program that can do just that for you.

I've never got people saying 7 was "better" for your privacy etc etc. They've been collecting your information since forever, it is just more transparent now. If you think they aren't doing all they can to get it, just because it is an older OS, then you are far too trusting.

Multiple issues made me turn in the Windows 10 machine my work gave me, and I went back to the Windows 7 machine I am using now.

My brother woke up one morning and found Windows 10 on his Windows 7 laptop. MS had installed the Windows 10 OS without permission while he slept. No way should this have been legal.

I don't feel like learning anything new or changing stuff. I also don't feel like paying for something I don't need.

I've never used 8 or 10 either. Get off my lawn.

This is the main reason.

Another reason is that Microsoft decided to push Win 10 to so many machines regardless of if they could handle the new OS or not. This caused a lot of people to be stuck with Win 10 that ran like a snail which left a bad taste in the mouths of customers.

If you have a newer PC and installed Win 10 fresh then it's miles better than Win 7.

Then again I don't like 7 anymore either. After Microsoft went full psychopath and started pushing updates that intentionally broke people's systems, thus forcing them to upgrade, I finally turned to Linux for my main OS. It's hilarious how much better it is than 7 or 10.

We have WSUS so updates aren't so much an issue. It's getting rid of half the shit on the menu, getting rid of Edge and replacing with IE, making IE default, etc, all for first time logins. You'd think there would be nice easy options for such but noooooo, MS makes it difficult as possible. They are getting better with some of the GPO options but it's apparent they gave no fucks about businesses using 10 and focused everything towards the consumer side.

10 is such buggy shit garbage I think it's given me some sort of anxiety. What basic function will stop working this month and force me to reformat? The start menu? Taskbar? Sound? Settings app? Updates?

I must have luck of the gods as have had never had an issue with 10.

I tried to upgrade to Windows 10 and it caused my computer to completely quit connecting to the internet so I said fuck it.

I don't. It is annoying to have to disable certain settings for privacy, but 10 is the better experience.

The problem with Windows is that they got it right back with Windows 95 and it's very difficult to improve upon the simple start menu and task bar. At this point they're just changing things for the sake of changing things, and Windows 10 is hilariously unintuitive to operate. Every time they change it, they have to include a way to change it back, because most people don't want the changes.

I decided to switch to W10 in September when I got my new mobo+CPU.
It took me like 3 days to remove and disable all the bullshit they added.
And still there's so many annoying things in there.

Why can't they just make a non-idiotic version. It has so much potential and the performance is noticably better, but they have to ruin it with useless garbage.

They can't make a non-idiotic version of Windows 10 because it would basically be Windows 7, which was released over eight years ago.
