It a Ponzi scheme, people who bought at the low convince other people to invest thereby artificially raising the price, then when the prices reach high enough, the early investors all sell for massive profits leaving the late comers with the bag

That must suck for those who bought in when it was 13k-19k they already lost more than half their money if they haven't pulled out yet.

What ever gave it value? Why is it worth anything at this point or ever? What the hell can they be used on? Why is it better than money?

Whats the point of gold or silver? What gives these commodities value in a modern fiat economy without much tangible uses for it? I think whatever the answer to that is is similar to why bitcoin has any value

Elaborate.

And yes. Gold and silver were valuable because it's what the mass wanted. It goes a bit deeper than that bit crypto currency has no tangible use that I see. Gold and silver still have a lot of use but I don't really know why they're always in value or what exactly makes them valuable.

Gold and silver has less uses than Bitcoin in the real world, Im fairly confident of that. Bitcoin is a decentralized currency, those who want to remain anonymous, or even want lower fees for money transactions, bitcoin is a solid alternative to traditional fiat. Theres hundreds of thousands of bitcoin transactions done daily, the uses of gold and silver for tangible applications on a daily basis seems far lower than the current use of bitcoin

People who invest in BTC are flighty in general, so highs are higher and lows are lower. It's just a normal market correction in crypto, but bitcoin is slowly being surpassed by superior coins, so it's crashing extra hard

It's a pump and dump.

People were pumping cytpo's tires left and right to inflate demand and then when there were enough buyers the people behind all that sold, sold, sold.

Had my eyes on a 1070, price was less than $500 then exploded up to $900+. As much as I want to upgrade I'm just not gonna spend such an excessive amount.

Though when the fad is over, GPUs will see a huge price drop with all the used no longer needed GPUs being resold from miners trying to recoup their costs.

So there's that at least.

Definitely, my only concern would be that 24/7 mining would cause more wear and tear on the cards. However if the used ones are really cheap it would be hard to resist.

From what I've heard, they probably won't have that much wear on them.

No miner is going to be overclocking the GPUs and they are likely not running them near 100%. At most you might have to deal with replacing the fans, but that's a minor cost.

This is an annual slump from the holiday rush, just greatly exacerbated by the massive pump that was based on nothing thanks to people who had no idea what bitcoin was jumping on the bandwagon expecting to multiply their money. Now as the annual slump hits they all panic sell which leads to an even harder dip.

We'll see what the markets look like an April or May.

Actually, gold has lower conductivity than copper, but it's used on electrical contacts because it doesn't tarnish like copper or silver. Silver is actually the most conductive metal, but it's not that much better than copper, and significantly more expensive, while copper is also relatively easy to pull into wires.

Silver is generally used around soders, iirc. But a lot of devices use a combination of gold, silver, and copper. But gold, copper, and silver are the best metals for electric conductivity if I'm not mistaken.

But it'll be on the ethereum chain imo.

Literally a bunch of people just randomly guessing ITT.

It's because of tether. It's a coin that was made with the assurance that it would be a 1 to 1 with the USD, and people were trading a shit ton of bitcoin and stuff with it using it to artificially inflate the coinconomy, despite it having no real reason to be worth a real USD, other than people saying it's supposed to. And now the people who made it got a subpeona and it's under doubt that they have the real money to back it up, so everyone started selling in fear.

For all the people crying PONZI PONZI, tether is the real Ponzi scheme.
