Super hyped. A little peeved there wasn't a big game to play along with like the original and 10CL, but having it suddenly drop like this makes up for it.

Its going on right now. They started like two weeks ago

whaaaaaat???? when? I'm subscribed to so many different Clover subreddits and I've never seen anything :((((

At the start of the movie they mention a satellite falling, and it was at least my assumption that the satellite is what woke up the monster. It doesn't make sense for it to be the monster, it would have been waaay bigger and we would have spotted it before it got here.

I still need to see the first movie but I can't see how that, 10 Cloverfield Lane, and this movie fit together in any decent way

The main problem I had with the second one fitting with the first one is if they are in the same universe, then everybody in the second one should know what happened in the first one and not be surprised by the alien attack at the end.. I guess it could have been covered up? But not really.

Its established when the first movie takes place, there is the date at the bottom of the screen like the whole time, and they could have made the second movie take place at the same time very easily, but they showed smart phones and stuff which ruins that. For me, anyway.

Now that you've seen it: early in in the movie Mark Stambler, author of the Cloverfield Paradox, says on the news that the experiments are dangerous. They may open up space time and invite in monsters in the past, in the future, and in other dimensions. So very easily a 2008 and 2016 dimension each could have experienced a sudden influx of aliens or whatever is going on

That ties things in pretty well. It still doesn't mesh in feeling

This movie was enjoyable but less so to consider it attached to the rest. Maybe the 4th movie coming out this year makes it feel like a better fit

And Im pretty sure the Cloverfield station that falls to earth is the satellite from the end of the first movie in the background

It had nothing to do with both of them.
They could have shown any random monster at the end of the movie. Clover from the first movie was barely bigger than a building and now he is suddenly taller than the sky?

It was pretty obvious that all of the Earth scenes were basically shoehorned in to connect this shite to the first two movies. At least they can now do whatever the hell they want the franchise because of that one onscreen interview.

Great marketing but the movie was terrible.

it's not the same Earth, yo

Cloverfield took place in 2008 in one dimension. This new film I didn't see what the year is, but it seems to be further in the future. Wouldn't it stand to reason that the alien/monster/whatever could be much larger in this future dimension?

I will agree they made it ridiculously huge, but we don't know how high those clouds were either :P

Great marketing but the movie was terrible.

It didnt show how high up he was, it just showed him going through the clouds. There are skyscrapers that go higher than the clouds do.

But youre right, everything from earth was added later, as were all the mentions to the Cloverfield space station and the Cloverfield paradox. And the movie didnt even really make all that much sense. And where were the aliens from the second one?

It wasnt awful, it just wasnt good. It was very disappointing for me, to be honest.

But youre right, now that the movies are (poorly) connected, they can do anything they want with them. Maybe even make a real sequel instead of buying somebody elses movie and changing the title!

but it's also the same Earth because the scenes on Earth show you Clover's "first" attack.

That's the biggest problem with this movie. You can basically interpret it anyway you want.

So that earth and the earth from the first Cloverfield are two different earths you think? I assumed they were the same one and the second earth (the one where her kids are still alive) was the only other one wed seen. You think that all the movies have been on a different earth?

Right.

But that was not the same Earth where the original Cloverfield monster appeared. Cloverfield 2008 Earth was another dimension's Earth that had the monster appear.

Like the author said in the interview (it was quick and easy to miss), using the Shepherd would potentially allow creatures to appear in the past, and in other dimensions. This movie was definitely not 2008! And if it were that Earth but years later, they would have already known about the monsters, and wouldn't.

I think 10 Cloverfield Lane could be C1's Earth years later, it's possible part of the world was disrupted by the invsion and the rest kept on doing stuff like making iPhone 6 :P

It may have been an actual satellite. There's the possibility that the Shepherd caused other things to cross dimensions, including space debris which fell from orbit. Not just the monster

My original take on the "Cloverfield" franchise was that it's an anthology series that could take place on any kind of Earth.

This new movie basically gives them the freedom to do just that without having the audience being forced to try and make them work within the same dimension/Earth/timeline.

But the problem with that is the online campaigns of the first two that connect them to the tagaruto company. They were on the same website

Pretty much that. Even though I participated in the online campaigns of the original and its sequel, I'm able to throw that "uber lore fangeek" stuff away and put myself in the mindset of a casual audience member.

Yeah. I watched LOST every week and didn't participate in the online stuff he did either. It really didn't matter. You might feel more engaged in ways but it's not plot critical and could be retconned.

The first two films may well take place on the same planet and have the same company. I don't think they mention the company in this film at all. It's the Dharma initiative stuff all over again

Thats the rumor. In theaters by the end of the year.

Also I read that one of the main reasons 3 was a Netflix exclusive was because they knew it really wasnt that good, but the next one is written by the writer of the revenant and the writer of captain Phillips, so that looks good.

I'd love to say I'm watching this and give my opinions, but Netflix is doing that thing where it plays for all of 2 or 3 minutes and goes all red ringy, and when I back out and resume it could be anywhere in the first half hour and I have to scroll to within a minute of where I last was. It's very much breaking the immersion and despite having watched snippets of this first half hour multiple times I really have no damned clue what's going on.

Fix your shit Netflix, I'm not paying you to make me remix the fucking film myself.
