It legitimately has horrendous netcode, a toxic community, and massive performance issues even on PC let alone console despite looking like a launch 360 game and having some of the worst vehicle physics in a modern high profile game. Watch Dogs 1 probably had better driving.

If it's so horrible, why is it so popular? Why are there a million+ daily players on Steam and why are there over four million copies sold on Xbox One in two months? Why are site reviews on it so high?

And if anyone is toxic, it's the ones that feel the need to constantly shit on the game...in over dramatic fashion.

The netcode is legitimately, factually, garbage though compared to other competitive games.
Trying to measure quality with popularity is pretty dumb. That implies things that are bad can never be popular. Which if I was to argue that about other medium you'd probably laugh me out of the room if I tried to use the billboard charts to say something is inherently a good song, or box office numbers to say something is inherently a good movie, or the ratings for a TV show inherently making it good. Or vice versa. I'm not even being dramatic. The netcode objectively is garbage, the graphics are somewhat subjective I guess but it's pretty objective that they're outdated, and the vehicle physics I guess could be argued as subjective but.... Not really...
As for the community YMMV I guess but mine have been filled with a bunch of try hards or people in squads who either refuse to communicate or declare themselves the leader of the squad and it's not about communicating as much as just "do what I say because I said so, I'm not asking" and the fact that if you don't jump to a hot spot, it's easy to go 30 mins or more without running into any one even if you try.

The Battle Royale game type is fun and all, but PUBG is such a messy way of doing it. Just because you like it doesn't mean you can't acknowledge it's issues. I love 7 Days to Die even though it's objectively a pretty garbage game on a technical level and has so many issues. At least that's not technically a fully released version though, which apparently PUBG is somehow despite being on near the same level of polish.

I like both Fortnite and PUBG, but PUBG is pretty decisively the better game for me. I too, was a fan of 7 days also.

Fortnite the single player/co-op campaign or whatever tower defense style is just awesome and criminally underrated because no one actually bought the base game.

What's wrong about what I'm saying? I enjoy PUBG, it's just a mess of a game on many levels. That doesn't mean it can't be fun, you can't like it, or it doesn't have redeeming qualities though. Just like what I said about 7 Days. It runs like garbage, the graphics are outdated, it's got bugs and glitches out the ass but it's still fun, I still play it, and I still enjoy it. And I enjoy when some of it's issues are fixed.

Being contempt with shoddy game design just because it has elements you enjoy will pretty much guarantee game devs start half assing games.

The sad part is we both know if it was a PC and PS4 exclusive, you'd be shitting on the issues it has until the end of time and dismissing what it does well where as when it's the other way around you can't do anything but the opposite.

And obviously its quality isn't lacking too much because again, it is extremely popular. You can't compare a popular song to a video game--one takes no effort to listen to whereas the other requires time and effort in order to enjoy it. In the case of video games, it being popular = It's a good game.

Except the devs have been consistently updating both versions of the game. We aren't contempt with shoddy game design; we are accepting of a fun game that has its issues that are steadily being addressed.

Buying a game at retail on the promise of it getting better is you being contempt enough with it's current state to spend money on it and keep playing. It's not a good precedent to send that you can make a game that shoddy and still sell millions of copies. Because there's other devs that would be contempt with just taking the money and leaving it roughly as it is or very, very, slowly addressing the issues.

Idk how they seemingly arbitrarily decided it was ready for a full release is beyond me. It still feels like an early access game or an alpha far off from a full release imo.

Well for one, the devs likely aren't lurking the boards here. And as I said, they are consistently improving both versions. Two, you literally have popped up in these threads multiple times just to talk trash on it with "I mean it's fun" and then proceed with praising Fortnite. I really don't think you even play it.

Again I've literally said I like the game. The things I've said that are bad about it are solely technical and game design issues that are objective. I mean there's really not much to argue if you're taking the stance that a game being popular means it's inherently a good game. We're on such polar opposite ends there that there's no point trying to debate it because neither of us are going to change the others mind about that.

I don't think the devs are specifically lurking the boards here, you just talk about the issues in general. They're improving it, but you have no idea the rate that's actually going to happen at for the major issues or if some of them will ever get fixed period. You just have to hope they do.
I've mentioned it multiple times because it's pretty much impossible to talk about the game without addressing the elephant in the room... It's a mess... Just like 7 Days To Die, it's such a technical mess that for a long time, even though I loved it, I wouldn't even recommend it to anyone, and I still won't recommend the console version, despite me still enjoying that version, because it's a fucking mess.
Fortnite gets brought it because obviously why wouldn't I acknowledge it's closest competitor, which doesn't have those same fundamental game design issues and technical issues? Especially on consoles. Does that make the game the better game or more fun? Not inherently. But as far as it goes on a technical level it's just better and actually works. Why wouldn't I acknowledge it?
I logged over 30 hours in Steam before my PC died, which was awhile ago so I haven't been able to keep track of the PC progress. The only way I have to play it is the Xbox version, which is still a steaming pile of shit on a technical level. Again, that doesn't mean it's not fun it doesn't have redeeming qualities, just that it's got blatant major issues. In a game that's sold at retail, now officially as a version they deemed suitable for a full release, with no indication anywhere that it's still pretty much in alpha. It was a major complaint I had with 7 Days too. Nowhere on the game which you could pick up in stores for $30 doesn't it even remotely acknowledge that the game on PC is still actually literally in alpha and that the console versions receives drip fed, selective updates from the PC version.

It was thirty dollars. And please--the precedent has been set way before this game came out.

They're setting the precedent by actually supporting the game on the regular.

When has it been done without the game getting shit on for it to hell and back? Shit even other blatantly unfinished games like Assassin's Creed Unity were more finished than PUBG. And at least the issue there was they were clearly overambitious for the next gen consoles and overestimated what their CPU power would be.
Nothing about PUBG is partially ambitious other than the fact that the initial team was small. But with all the money they have now if that's still the case there's no reason for it to be.

Ive been playing PUBG in the X1X since day one. When I started, it ran like shit. After multiple patches, its more than acceptable.

Other than some rubber banding at the beginning of the match, and the occasional five second network lag, I have no real complaints.

The thirty dollars spent, for the amount of time Ive put into this game was well worth the investment.

The thing is, people dont really play games just for netcode, just for graphics, or just for reliability. The most important aspect is fun. If the game is fun, the game can have shoddy netcode graphics and quality. So really all the complaints, which are valid, dont really mean anything because the fun factor overcomes the flaws of the game
