80/80

Seems in this day and age, with social media and the internet being what they are, even the smallest groups of offended people can have a large, loud voice when they band together. Getting people fired, getting shows cancelled, getting advertisers to back out, etc.

Comedians can have jokes backfire in horrific ways, and sometimes theres a razor-thin line between something thats clever, funny social commentary and something thats flat-out repugnant.

Even the best comics fuck up now and then. People have every right to be offended and voice their opinion, but some people have such thin skin, and the power they wield on social media can be oveewhelming. I wonder how much longer comics will be willing to assume the risk that comes with pushing the envelope. Hope we dont come to a point where all commercial humor is banal and safe, because comedians are afraid to lose their income.

If you can't laugh at yourself and your loved ones, you don't deserve to laugh at anything.

My favorite is when one such person is laughing at something such as child alopecia, for example, and then you make a joke about deaf people, and they retaliate because, "my little cousin is deaf!"

Man, shut the **** up, stop cherry picking what to be offended by.

Don't even get me started when comics cave and apologize. Ugh.

There is plenty of money to be made from the silent majority. Just gotta learn to ignore the vocal minority.

People get offended but those people aren't the people that would have bought tickets to see that comedian. They may even benefit from the free publicity.

Thats not a great example, as he was just losing his shit at some hecklers. It wasnt part of his routine. He was lashing out in anger.

What prompted me to make this was that I just heard about this Brazilian comic whos in all sorts of trouble over a joke he made. Heard this on the radio but I cant find a link describing the situation. If I can find it Ill post it.

Another good example would be Gilbert Godfrey losing his Aflac gig over jokes he made on his personal Twitter account after a tsunami wrecked the Fukushima reactor in Japan.
