crypto miners are the worst

I went to buy a 1070 after my bonus and the price was double the usual. I'm just gonna wait.

Yeah I've been wanting to build a new one but I might just buy a prebuilt one. Tax refund will give me enough

Really? Why do you need a good PC to do that? Don't you just buy and sell like stocks? I'm happy I got my awesome PC when I did then

I'm glad I went high end with the computer I built 3 years ago. It does pretty well at mining. Added a $400 GPU a few months back to increase the output.

With mining, your computer is essentially earning a certain amount over time. You aren't buying anything with that method.

How do I know how well my computer would handle such things? I asked on here for a great PC, what to buy and stuff, but I paid someone to put together for me, so I don't really remember what's in it.

Edit -

I'm sure it's shitty now, but I have a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970

The better your GPU, the better the hash rate. Not sure how to determine how well a certain GPU would do, though

How would a prebuilt help??

A prebuilt will have a terrible GPU... which is the same as you building one with a cheap GPU. Terrible logic

Memory and GPUs are through the roof thanks to Cryptocurrency. There are evidently warehouses of linked graphics cards now.
A coworker got a great deal on a MB and CPU though.

You could just, you know, buy a card that isn't being used by crypto-miners.

Edit: Ok, nevermind. Holy shit, every single one of the cards listed on ncix.com are listed as "back order", meaning that they have none in stock. Are people literally buying these to set up cryptocurrency mining servers?

My laptop is dying. Can barely play music or browse the internet without stutter. It doesn't matter if the fan has been cleaned or a reboot has been done. Laptop can barely function anymore. I would like a computer that can play games on high settings, but at this point I just need a computer that will work and still be able to play games at medium settings. It's not like I plan on being a Twitch streamer , music producer, or need to render HD videos super fast.

What youre not understanding is a prebuilt will have a terrible GPU and terrible parts AND overcharge you.

Youre saying you cant build one because the GPU prices are high so you settle for a rip off pre built.

Even the integrated graphics on an gen 8 i5 can play skyrim now bro.

I just dont get what prebuilt you found that is cheap money wise and somehow includes like a gtx 1080 or something. You make no sense :(

Yes.

And it ends up killing them faster too so they have to be replaced more often

this is mostly true, but you can, occasionally, find a good price on a prebuild with good hardware.

Let's say Crypto starts dying out for some reason

What's stopping these manufacturers from keeping these high prices as the new norm?

The aftermarket will be flooded. This is exactly why Nvidia is working to limit graphics cards sales.

Also, this is what happens when people meme something that can actually prove profitable

Mining is the verifying of hashes being transferred, with a fee paid in the coin to the miner for expending cpu/gpu power to continue the blockchain

while people invest in crypto like stocks, miners are the necessary backbone of it

however proof-of-stake is starting to become the norm over proof-of-work, so eventually prices will return to normal.
