If that's all you need it for you can probably get a cheaper one.

That's pretty close to the laptops we deploy at work, solid machines.

Kinda weird it has only 1366x768 res, and it has only integrated intel gpu. You'd think it would have 1600x range res at least. Could be it has above average build quality though, seeing its advertised as business laptop.

I'd say the same as billcom6, you could likely find cheaper one for your needs.

Looks decent but it lacks a proper hard drive to go with the SSD and an i7 seems overkill given the low RAM and non-existent dedicated graphics card.

Good machine but looks a little unbalanced.

I really only know about computers when I am researching to buy one, but I know there are decent laptops in the $500 range.

Deals get posted here when they pop up:

just get something with a 1080p screen and an SSD

I would not spend more than $400 on a laptop that doesnt hit both those features tbh

That resolution is less than 1080p which has been industry standard for years. An i7 with dedicated graphics is overkill on the processor for your uses, but couldn't play any games. Not that you need to play games, but a rig with a less powerful processor and either a better screen or storage will feel like a better machine.

You basically overpay for a processor you couldn't stretch the wings out of and skimp on everything else that matters. And for just under 700? You can do much better.

Look up Asus zenbook TC. They're usually a similar price point, less powerful processor but it makes up for it in form factor. Super lightweight laptop that's perfect for lugging around everywhere to class, battery will last you an entire day, and the specs are sufficient.

He's saying he'd spend more than 400, but if any laptop lacked either of those features he wouldn't spend more than 400 on that particular rig. And he's absolutely right.

yeah it'll cost more than $400 to get better than that but plenty of sub-$400 laptops will have a 1366x768 screen and a shitty hard drive and I cant think of a reason to pay more than $400 for mediocre features(not talking about the link in the OP specifically)

I'd suggest this instead. Great screen, light, portable, plenty of CPU power and RAM for multitasking, plenty of storage, plus some other goodies like a fingerprint reader, HDMI port, SD card reader, etc.

You can always buy SSD later, for your needs you can likely need only 128gb ssd. That's better laptop than what you originally showed, especially the screen. Its full hd+ comes with asus software to tweak colors and such and its anti glare, and its very good thing. My toshiba has so fucking reflective screen i rather use it in dark room.

For the price that seems like pretty good laptop. Still, don't expect to get your mind blown, and it can have it quirks and annoying build quality/noise/wifi etc issues.

EDIT: I actually read some Amazon reviews, and it seems Asus has pretty poor QA with its HDD's on that machine. Plenty of 100% disc usage issues, and those can likely be caused by bad and slow sectors in HDD. Those can lock the whole system for some time, and it will eventually get worse. Tbh, i would buy SSD anyway, and it will still be cheaper what you originally checked.

You can pop it open and install a SATA M.2 SSD ($100 for 250gb) along with the 1TB HDD and even add another 8gb stick of RAM in the free slot for 16GB total, or replace both for up to 32gb. Plus it has a current gen CPU.

You could also try this https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Aspire-i5-8250U-GeForce-E5-576G-5762/dp/B075FLBJV7 with a current gen CPU, a low end GPU better than the Intel HD graphics so you could at least play some low demanding or older games in your spare time, as well as having an SSD by default of you don't feel like tinkering with the other one.

Honestly if you're just web browsing and doing school work I wouldn't even think you truly need an SSD, you could actually get by with something much cheaper. Shit even a Chromebook would probably meet your needs just fine if it's just schoolwork and such.
