One of my friends gave it to me, and I'm thinking about playing it once I'm done with my current game (Song of Saya), which shouldn't take too long. I love GTA and Saint's Row, but sometimes sandbox games feel sort of empty. The setting here is different so I may enjoy it a bit more. I have the Definitive Edition on PC, btw.

So, is it good, or should I start the other games on my list?

Haven't played the other ones but I found Sleeping Dogs to be rather enjoyable. Story gets a little weak at times and there are some half-assed features (like you get safe houses you can buy furniture for but... it's like two pieces of furniture per safe house and there's no real point).

It's fairly down to earth compared to GTA/Saints Row, definitely not as many fun side activities (from what I remember it had racing, karaoke and taking women on dates for perks).

The expansion packs were short but weird as hell and I enjoyed it (like the jumping ghost nonsense).

It's really good and underrated.

It's GTA but with brawling instead of guns and that makes it better than GTA, I loved it.

Pros:

Decent story (nothing special but decent)
Protaganist is likable.
The Sandbox is beautiful.
Amazing martial arts combat. Seriously fun.
Decent amount of side-activites and collectables without going overboard.
Fun world with fun characters

Cons:

Gunplay is medicore and late game takes the place of the fighting for no good reason.
Map is small for a modern sandbox (may be a plus depending on mood)
No planes.
There's a lot of pointess stuff and missed oppotunites. Such as giving you multiple "homes" which you can buy furniture for and then nothing to do in them
Some of side-quests are dumb, like the drug-busting one which is comically easy.
The story has some weird time-skips and some plot points are clunky.

It's also a serious game (apart from the DLC which is all comedy) so comparisons to Saints Row are out.

It's sort of like GTAIV or V but if it was made as a Chinese Martial Arts movie series.

It's really good when going through the main story (and does melee combat better than most games of its type), but don't expect a lot of post-game content or a sandbox comparable to GTA. That's not to say that those elements aren't there; they're just not as prominent.

Thanks CE, I'm definitely gonna install it. The Chinese setting is a pretty big draw for me.

The unrivaled attention to detail and the ridiculous online play.

But there's a bunch of dumb shit too. Like the lack of viability of businesses in single player, and the over reliance on cheesing stock market mechanics to get money.
