-Several characters typically locked behind a DLC paywall at launch

-Pitiful amount of single-player content and people are okay with it because "hurr let me fight people not the computer"

-eSports heavy-focus to the point where major announcements happen there for some games and the release date of some games actually revolve around EVO and the like

-Communities tend to dry out because unlike other online games there's always a more "up-to-date" version that everyone is playing

-Individual fanbases for some series are worse than Sonic and Fire Emblem communities put together I swear to god

-DLC for otherwise free things like costumes, skins and fucking PALETTE COLORS

I think I'll just play Tekken 3 for the rest of my fighting game career tbh

FPS games like COD and Battlefield become almost unplayable if you don't buy the DLC, and with a yearly release the communities get divided even more. I'd say modern FPS games are just as bad, if not worse.

The fighting game industry is struggling to come up with a model that pleases consumers in a world where arcade cabinets are all but being phased out completely.

It doesn't help that it's one of those cases where the popular ones stay popular, and the good ones go unnoticed.

Yeah, I actually really like the genre but the fact is a large part of the community is clamouring for a decent amount of SP content and is pretty much ignored by everyone but the MK series.

The play lists in BF and COD get dwindled down to just a few, underpopulated choices if you didn't buy the DLC. This is especially egregious in BF4 and the MW series. Thankfully they eventually released all of the BF4 dlc for free, years after release.

Was waiting for this.

Statistically the default maps are played the most, even when all the DLC is out. That's why so many FPS communities are still thriving. Battlefield 4 has more default maps being played than the DLC ones, even after they were free. I know this because I played it for about 15 hours this year because I had an itch to for some reason.

Even without the map DLC, you're likely to get more content for your money out of an FPS purchase.

Meanwhile you buy a character in a fighting game and they're free in the next one, fucking A.

That BF4 shit is an outright lie. Im willing to bet theres tons of more people playing BF4 than there are people playing BF1 at this very moment.

At least on PC. Console casuals tend to have 1 year attention spans.

I'm specifically talking about consoles. Who the fuck plays fighting games on PC? And it's 100% true.
