All you need is money and average grades and you can get into a law school in the US. Then just grind through three years of law school, where the workload is nothing compared to medical school or even undergrad engineering, pass a bar that more than 50% of the takers can pass, and get called to the bar.

After all that, you don't really know anything. You certainly don't know how to practice law. Just a bunch of useless theories and histories of contract, tort, criminal, and civil procedures. Most of which you'll forget after you pass the bar.

Seriously, I feel like if you can read and write, you can be a decent lawyer. Which is probably why more and more people choose pro se representation. Just need to be able to memorize all the legal languages and jargon and you are already better than half of the lawyers out there.

No wonder so many lawyers are unemployed and eventually had to change their professions.

Yet, so many people still consider lawyers to be a prestigious occupation. Wonder how long it will take until this attitude changes.

There are a lot of shitty lawyers, experienced this first hand. Also, some shitty doctors out there too.

Unfortunately, even in those important professions, shitty people exist.

The sad part is they do make good arguments, but get f***ed because they don't get taken seriously.

Like, there was a case where a guy lost his self-rep case. Hired a lawyer, who made the exact same arguments on appeal, and won.

That's just sad.

And really good lawyers can definitely help you either get out of jail time or drastically reduce your sentence. A lot of the best lawyers have qualities you cant really teach, like giving impassioned oratory and making eloquent but logical lines of reasoning.

Unfortunately most people arent gonna come into contact with the best of the best in the legal world - theyre simply out of your price range. You have a lot of high end legal minds working as part of a collective for top firms who get hired out by big boy corporations for representation.

Going to need a citation on that, because my gut instinct is to doubt that they were in fact the same arguments. Further doubts arise because half of the battle is the clarity in argumentation.

Grad school in general is petty easy. A lot of doctoral theses are undergrad tier research. Its not that hard to get into some program somewhere.

Of course those who are actually good at their profession are really good.

If I remember correctly, that was the procedural history of Gideon v. Wainwright.

People who are not educated often mock the education of professionals and deride it as inconsequential and the profession is simply protected by this gatekeepung.

These people are uneducated and often jealous due to their lack of achievement.

First of all, Gideon's conviction wasn't overturned in appeal, it was a new trial. Second of all, Gideon's lawyer was a better lawyer than Gideon himself (which should be obvious). Gideon failed to do basic things like cross examine a witness about statements which incriminated Gideon. And Gideon's lawyer, Turner, was more adept at picking apart damning testimony and came up with a theory to shift the blame to the prosecution's witnesses. People who were present at the trial have commented that Gideon did not do a good job defending himself and that any ordinary lawyer would've won the case.

The bar is hard AF, the passage rates are high because of 3 years of schooling combined with intense and expensive post bar courses and months of intense studying for the specific exam. Getting into a top law school is by no means easy, most people don't even have a prayer. And it's not that hard to complete law school in the sense that it's hard to fail out,but to be even slightly above average at a good is very difficult since everything is on a curve.

There are a lot of garbage lawyers at the low end, but once you pay the big bucks you'll find lots on freaks of nature.

Substance abuse yes, lack of critical thinking no.

And big surprise that people in medical are attacking lawyers. It seems like a requirement if you work in medicine.

Maybe when lawyers stop suing medical professionals over dumb shit they have no control over.

What? Pradaxa, a blood thinner, can cause unusual or persistent bruising and bleeding?

No fucking shit dude tell me more!!!!

What? A rare side effect that didnt show up in the heavily controlled tests and no one could have predicted? Better sue!
