I played every RPG I could get my hands on during 4th and 5th gens. I played a few 6th gen, but by then it was mostly because I expected to like them based on past experiences. From 7th gen onward my experience amounted to hearing about a great RPG, being excited to play it and then getting bored after the first hour or two and quitting.
What it comes down to for me was that I was drawn to them because pre-Internet there wasn't much to do if you were a kid and awake at night. Everyone else is asleep, but in the games there are bustling towns and you feel more like you're in a living world. But since there's no need to supplement that feeling of connection anymore it's like half of the charm is gone, and all you're left with is whether the battle system is good or not. --- Do unto others what your parents did to you. ...
