I couldve sworn you were 29 a year ago.

Anyway, Facebook gave me one of those memories things you can choose to put on your timeline, today. Its apparently the anniversary of when my last relationship had me come out to meet her grandparents. I had forgotten how soon into it that was, like, sooner than I remember... 3 months if you want to include all the time we constantly texted before meeting up. This time last year, in three weeks, her grandmother dies, she leaves for a week, and does a 180 on the relationship by the time shes back.

I had been so sure, at the time, that we were in for a longer haul. I still have no idea just what it was that I honed in on. Never felt like a fling, just the beginning of something more. Could never wrap my head around the brevity. Days just meant more when she was in them. The perspective of watching this similar span of time uneventfully fly by is kind of terrifying.

So me and the girl Ive been seeing broke it off. Reasons are longer than I want to type out, but Id been feeling off about it, knew that it was coming off in my behavior, and knew we needed to talk about it. I had been getting it a bit from her, too. So we talked and found out we were in the same boat in that we each thought the other seemed perfect on paper but couldnt get that chemistry going.

I was cool with continuing to feel it out, but not if there wasnt a mutual effort there. She seemed to be looking for reasons to call it quits. I think the uncertainty made her uncomfortable, and Im the first guy shes been with in five years. So we scaled back. Romance might not be there, but weve had fun together, so we chose to remain friends.

Honestly, I think this was just a timing thing. Probably my fault, too, because I was closed off when she was feeling the spark. Little disappointing, little relieving I wasnt dropping a bomb on her, but Im glad something good is coming out of it.

Edit: on a weird coincidental note, shes previous friends with Zak motherfucking Orth of Wet Hot American Summer fame. No idea why Im not in love with her
