http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/359730-trump-thinks-scientology-should-lose-its-tax-exempt-status

President Trump has thrown his support behind removing the Church of Scientology's tax-exempt status, according to a Huffington Post report.

Twitter messages from a Trump family friend and top official at the Department of Housing and Urban Development claim that Trump and his family "couldn't agree more" that the church should lose its tax-exempt status.

This isn't something be made into policy and likely probably would be hard to accomplish. But if Trump could accomplish this, this would be something good.

Hopefully he can get it done.

Scientology is a disgusting thing that should lose any and all benefits and its leaders imprisoned for the horrible shit they do.

They'll do what they did the first time. Lawyer up en masse and cause so much trouble for the IRS they get their status back.

Scientology really shouldn't be considered a religion, though that would be hard to revoke their status and it's not like Scientology leaders wouldn't fight to keep it.

It's not a good idea to let the president or government in general decide which churches get tax exempt status. I despise Scientology as much as any sane thinking person but this is road you don't want to go down. Personally I don't think any church should be tax exempt, but it's all or nothing. Otherwise you start allowing the persecution of religions the government doesn't like via removal of their tax exempt statuses.

Then prosecute them to the full extent of the law. The Catholic church has easily done as much damage to individuals as Scientology, seeing as how there was/is an institutional cover up of the molestation of thousands of children over the last 50-60 years, but you don't see Trump calling for an end to their tax exempt status. Why? Because they are a mainstream religion.

Not nearly enough, not really even a good percentage. The following contains all the collated data from 1950-2016.
http://www.bishop-accountability.org/AtAGlance/USCCB_Yearly_Data_on_Accused_Priests.htm
Then there is also this UN report from 2014 that shows that the Vatica "systematically placed preservation of the reputation of the church and the alleged offender over the protection of child victims."
https://www.nbcnews.com/news/world/u-n-report-vatican-policies-allowed-priests-rape-children-n22531

Look, like I said, I agree with every single bad thing said about scientology. It's a creepy pyramid scheme cult, but letting the Government pick and choose starts a bad precedent and would allow the dismantling of freedom of religion in this country based on the preferences of whatever regime happens to be in power.

There are a ton of cults that are tax-exempt. The government legally cant just go picking and choosing though. They need to revoke it for all religions tbh.

Yeah. The creator of scientology was a science fiction writer and scientology basically uses on of his books for gospel IIRC.
