Im not sure how they plan to handle the Mario movie, but Im super interested in seeing what they decide to make of it, especially with Miyamoto involved. Those Pikmin shorts were nice once upon a time! Maybe itll be a movie of sound effects. There it is.

Also, has anyone played Owlboy? If so, how is it? t comes out on the Switch next week, and Ive been wanting to play it for a while now!

RayDyn just gave me a key for Owlboy. It's the early unlock for next month's Humble Monthly, alongside Civ 6. Haven't gotten to it yet, too busy with Iconoclasts and Monster Hunter.

I've seen people in the arcade scene express distrust over a lot of the "old guard" arcade scores over the past few years. I believe the current Donkey Kong WR has legitimate witnesses though.

Even in speedrunning there have been multiple recent cases of runs getting exposed. One guy recently got exposed for playing prerecorded Yoshi's Island runs (which were likely tool-assisted) on stream with his controller cam on, and pretending he was running it live. He got caught because his controller inputs didn't match the screen at certain times.

Read through that, and man, that's insane. The evidence that he lied is pretty good, but there are some minor quibbles about his behavior that I found noticeable:

1. Apparently he has NEVER been seen getting over 1 million points live. There've been people who have said they've seen him do it, and he's claimed to have done it in front of crowds, but it's never been proven to actually been seen by the general public. I especially like this video where he is about to set a record in public and someone "accidentally" unplugs the machine:

2. All of Billy's 1 million+ score videos are direct feeds, which is odd enough, but the process of setting up a direct feed on a DK arcade machine is extremely complicated (http://donkeykongforum.com/index.php?topic=1413.0) to the point that it's possible only one person has actually done it. Billy has said before he doesn't know much about the hardware, but he supposedly does this when playing on machines set at conventions and stuff? If someone else is doing it for him, then they've never been mentioned or have spoken up.

3. Donkey Kong on MAME apparently has minor, but noticeable, audio inconsistencies compared to the real version. And for "some" reason Billy's direct feed footage of his records completely lack sound...

Like, it's one thing to have smoking guns that heavily stack against him, but these points alone should make him extremely suspect. Just like with Todd Rogers I'm astonished how anyone could get away with stuff like this and still be considered credible, even if you couldn't prove them wrong.

I think he probably lied, but like, I've seen King of Kong and that felt clear without any direct proof.

the one thing that's hilarious about that writeup is that it references Dwayne Richard as a reputable source, and if you've seen Man vs. Snake -- which is amazing, especially if you're a Nibbler freak like me -- you'd know that he's one of the sketchiest dudes ever.

yeah Guilty Gear Xrd has a training mode that's basically the same deal there, where certain colors of target have to be hit by certain attacks to break. It's not really the Smash Bros. type of thing if that's what you were thinking.
