I think it's funny that a lot of the most negative reviews on Steam come from people with 300+ hours saying it sucked.

If you play on rented servers, you'll do fine. Official servers are hell and the day count for the server almost corresponds 1:1 with the ping. Mega tribes can and will transfer servers to wipe other tribes. Tons of money gets spent to get them to do that. People pay to purchase max level dinosaurs. Both of which are through stuff like PayPal and violate the tos but nobody gets hit with bans unless they admit it in global text chat.

It's buggy but in the same way Bethesda games have bugs. Definitely unfinished but just this past week there were 3 patches. Mostly for the new dlc map that released. It's one of those games that released and totally doesn't get what "beta" means considering they basically released during the beta and charge money for a game that isn't even considered by the company to be the final product. :l

You can play offline solo or multiplayer co op that's local but they're tethered to you and can't get far away. playing with other people is nice though and the rented servers have admins who actually try to help make things fair, like no blocking major resource sites or the areas with artifacts needed to fight bosses.

If you like the gameplay, it can be great. But if not? It'll just be a game you try for 10-30 hours then give up on entirely.

It's also brutally hard and you'll die a lot. But that's part of why it's fun. Learning curve and all.

I've got it and I think it's fantastic.

I play exclusively single player, though. Most of my gaming time is at work (night shift is SLOOOOOOOOW) and therefore not conducive to multiplayer. But if you like survival and crafting games, it's definitely one of the best out there.

Those whales can rot in hell where they belong. They won't attack you but they will attack your boat and dinos. Makes transporting dinos across the map hard as heck unless you're high level and got enough black pearls to make a speed boat.

I was the biggest solo tribe on 448. I owned a massive portion of land. Level 98 character (on official servers). I was breeding rexes, argents, wolves, sabercats, and several other dinos for stats and colors. I had many mutations. I didn't just have ascended blueprints, I had ascended blue prints that you could only get from mooooooooonths of checking under water drops and running cave runs all day on all the caves.

Don't get ark.

You have 7 day timers on your dinos. Up to 21 day timers on everything else if you upgrade to metal. Fact is, you'll be logging in every day for your timers. I did this for 2 years.

Know what it's like to breed baby dinos? Imagine setting your alarm clock for every 3 hours only AFTER you've been awake for over 24 hours getting eggs to hatch, then getting them out of baby stage and into juvanile. You then spend the next week setting your alarm clock to every 3 or 4 hours to feed your baby dinos.

When you lose these dinos and you WILL lose your dinos, you will be hurt. If someone trolls your base while you are offline, you will be hurt. You will put a LOT of time into this game. It will give you NOTHING in return.

You can seriously lose a lot, A LOT, playing this game. Not only will you never, EVER, touch your other games, you will find yourself a slave to your base.

The guns are really bad. Combat is flouty and impricise. You'll use a xbow 99% of the time. once you can use darts, you'll use a long neck rifle, but it fires like a old revolution musket.

The pike/sword work kinda well, but it's like minecraft. You kinda point i a random direction of the dino and just hit, the hit boxes are horrid so you got a 50/50 chance of nailing it.

Put it this way: the highest level gear you can get are tech gear. The coolest item in this set of tech gear is a saddle that you put on your rex, that gives your rex FUCKING LAZER BEAMS. Sounds cool huh?
I dare you to hit something with those lasers. Good luck, you'll never land a single shot.

So yeah that's the end game. Broken gear that you'll never use. Oh and it's really expensive, the gas that this gear uses to power the suits....you have to tame like 15 level 300 rexes and have plenty of rockets. You'll never get there. No tribe is alpha enough to put this work in, if they haven't already done it.

Offline is garbage. Unless you're willing to turn on cheats, which degrades the replayability by a lot. You can cheat and tame anything you want, but it's the equivalent to playing SUPER EASY on any game that you normally play Normal or Hard on. And ark is at fucking Master Ninja Difficulty.

When you get your asses handed to you, not hundreds, but thousands of times by any number of dino (I personally hate the troodons). If you don't quit the game before this happens, then you'll be forever addicted. Once you master this game you won't be able to put it down. No matter what life demands of you, Ark will come first. I gaurantee it.

When you lose your progress and everything you've forgone has been for nothing, then you will break down. I picked myself up and re solo tribed 3 more servers. After 192 days played on my account, I can tell you this game isn't worth playing. Dumbed down with cheats OR playing it the way you are meant to play it (online), you're going to lose. Unless you are ok with frequently resetting progress, I advise just steering clear of ark.

You'll fall in love with it and it will burn you.

Not to mention the devs have questionable practices.

I bought SE the day it came out.

Now there's a season pass a year later that requires me to repay for SE AGAIN by purchasing the season pass...or paying extra by buying future DLCs seperately. Again, if you play ark, you will not play anything else. Ark will become your game whether you like it or not. Once you invest too much time into ark, it becomes really hard to pull out.

THIS GAME PLAYS ON YOUR ADDICTION LEVELS. If there was ever a game where too much of a good thing is implied, it's this one.

Dodge the bullet, try something else.

Ahhhhh they are ridiculous.

Just started a new file on ragnarok in the desert biome. Got out of there and went north through a swamp. I'd never been to the west side of the island that far south. Tamed a 150 ptera. Got it to 191. Leveled it up a bunch more. Couldn't get it to stay on my boat so I had it follow. A whale killed it. A whale that of course spawned in doing that whole "hey I'm on my nose and everything else is out of water" thing.

It was single player and I have 100 times tame rate but ouch. Having a 150 spawn is rare and they can still die from sarco attacks during the taming process.

Gonna make a modified ship layout so my new spino can ride. Then to the snow biome.
