I was a trans many years before watching anime, and I don't even watch that kind of anime that is mentioned in the OP. Claymore, Ergo Proxy, DBZ, Yu Yu Hakusho, Stein's Gate, Texhnolyze, and the like, are what I watch. I also don't like cutesy women, I like tough, independent women (e.g. Claire, Re-l Mayer, Revy, Kurisu). And the avatars that I use are more sexual and 'dark' in nature, not some anime chick.

Also, what made me the way I am is being brought up by a bunch of women and my friends were usually girls -- girls that always liked to dress me up, yet at the same time had a crush on me and treated me like some sort of BF. My relations with women were always like that... they enjoy dominating/controlling me, but somehow fall in love with me, too. It's almost like I'm both genders in one body, and that intrigues the women that get to know me.

I was watching these videos on YouTube talking about the killer Randy Stair who thought he was an anime character. During one of the videos he admitted that he was an anime girl (14-19) trapped in a man's body. He hated men, gays and some races. Obviously this is just one guy who had issues.

I think this all boils down to "grass is greener". In anime, every thing is perfect: perfect body, perfect world, easy life, no stress, ect... People probably compare their life to that of one in anime.

More people exploring their gender and sexuality is good. It's how we avoid those whole "family breaks up because one spouse was actually gay, the children suffer" scenarios that have been all too common since the 60s.

Ok so perhaps anime doesn't cause people to turn trans but there is a strong correlation that the majority of trans are anime fans either before or after they decide they are trans. I day again, is there a single trans person on CE that's not into anime?

I didn't really read in depth, but is it just a single case study? That's one of the weakest forms of evidence, so if that's all they have they'd need more research.

I don't agree with the writer's brand of psychology. However I can understand the points that they are trying to make.

Let's face it, if a guy wants to do something that society views as girly he might get mocked for it. So the writer is suggesting to avoid that meanness they go full in to the idea that they are not this horrible thing called male. kind of like how a parent would take a way a toy that a boy is playing with if it is too girly.

Also I don't think the writer is saying that anime is the cause. It is other side world saying that a man can't express themselves in those ways as the cute(like puppy cute) anime girls.
