Fair, it didn't go the way I thought it would, but it didn't wow me either. Decent enough, plot doesn't feel like a completely rip off of Empire although they definitely play the "how many references to the originals can we squeeze in" game.

7/10 seems fair, it's a good film but nothing is going to really stand up to the original Star Wars films.

It was certainly watchable and had some good scenes, but in my opinion it is the worst Star Wars film outside of the prequels

The thing that gets me is how... inept both sides of this war seem to be. The rebels for apparently blowing a major victory, and the New Order I mean First Order for being inept as fuck. This going back to Force Awakens. The new movie felt like a long TV episode of Star Trek or something. The whole siege bits. Certainly doesn't get me hyped or even giving a shit about what they do from here.

I feel they are trying to distance themselves from the prequels too much. Just because the prequels sent a bit too heavy on dry political scenes doesn't mean they should completely ignore everything that's going on in that scene. Force Awakens just feels like the rebellion and the empire never stopped. They just keep going because everyone is stupid.

I like how basically half the movie wouldn't have happened had she just answered his question as to what the plan was instead of being a secretive bitch

I don't feel like that's really an apt comparison for the structure of the Resistance though and can't really be applied to this situation. Nothing about the Resistance or their situation resembles a real life military.

It would've made more sense if each support ship once evacuated warp rammed another ship. I mean what? She was just going to ride the ship until fuel ran out and get blasted like the rest? If your going to play hero go out with a bang. "Sir, we're almost out of fuel what should we do?" "Evacuate, turn around and engage ramming speed."

The only reason the warp ram worked was because the First Order didn't shoot the cruiser because they knew it was empty. If the other ships had tried it they'd have been blown up before they could manage it.

The success of the light speed ramming did make me wonder why nobody else ever did it though. Why didn't the rebel fleet at Endor just light speed ram the Death Star?

All in all it felt "meh." It seldom felt as serious as previous films, was too action-ey in the worst ways, and Kylo Ren still doesn't feel like a real villain yet.

Snoke felt like a real villain. I was angry that Kylo killed Snoke. Kylo feels nowhere as good as him

I guess you could come up with some excuse about the gravitational fields of the planet or death star mess with that ability.

They never really explain how hyperspace works.

They should just start making small drone ships with hyperdrives. At that speed they could probably 1-shot Star Destroyers and making everything but fighters obsolete.

Star Wars is the kind of film you shouldn't think too much about the physics. Especially the space combat.

In all honesty fighter spaceships could just be heavily armed cubes since aerodynamics don't matter in space. But yeah, the series is still using WW2 tactics in a setting that doing so is really ineffective. They could just use really dense drones that travel at hyper speed to ram into large craft and it would be effective.

Yeah that was super annoying.
Then when Leia tells Poe, he's like "OMG, she was right all alonnnnggggg", when his real response should have just been, "Why the fuck didn't she just say that, especially after I point-blank asked like a dozen times?" It was stupid.

Overall, I liked this way more than FA, mainly because it wasn't a complete Empire clone, like FA was to ANH, but there's too many nagging issues for me and incoherence with the overall plot. And there's basically no way for IX to redeem it all now. This new trilogy basically feels like a let down.

It wouldn't have been nearly as stupid if they done it better, have her use the force to grab something to keep from getting sucked out in the first place and get into the ship before she suffocated and froze to death.

But nope, let her die, then all the sudden fake out I'm Marry Poppins and can super man fly into the ship, dumb as fuck

It's sad when the Guardians of the Galaxy films seem more grounded in reality.

The worst part is they set up a bunch of amazing ideas but none of them pay off as they are all ignored and the movie plays it 100% safe instead.

If you really want to dig into it, this saga is a lot more diverse then the original trilogy.

I think the Rey and Kylo vs. The Elite Praetorian Guards was one of the more shit hot action scenes in any Star Wars flick yet.

Yes. When she got spaced I was thinking "So this is how they wrote her out?" but nope, space Hilary "IT WAS HER TURN" Clinton survives in the film yet is dead in real life. Meanwhile Luke is Obi Wan now. Maybe I would've felt better if Finn died since it would've given weight and higher stakes to what was happening on screen and what was going on plot wise... but nope.

So you weren't paying attention to the movie?

The ship was evacuated using cloaking tech. The plan was she would stay there and fly the ship since without knowing where the evaced ships were leaving, they would just continue firing on that ship. Which they did until the splicer dude revealed the cloaked ships to them.
