Franken was heavily defended to the point where people claimed the photo didn't actually show groping

others said he doesn't need to step down until Trump does as if the other side being bad is an excuse for hyposcrisy

people said it was important he stayed because he fought hard for women

not until it was too many women accusing him was the hand of the party forced to take action

kinda hard to argue moral superiority given all this

more or less it is they care more about their image than the republicans do, but that is not morality

All I have to say about US politics is that it does it damn best to ruin the internet for the rest of us. You can barely go into a topic discussing games, movies, comics,... without some asshats going "Reeeee libcucks" or "Reeee nazis".
I know there are still plenty of sane people in the US, but these morons are the loudest and they seem to be everywhere these days.

Not really a good analogy - Republicans run on a platform of less government, meaning their voters WANT it shut down.

Dems, meanwhile, run on a platform of significantly more, to the point where your government literally decides what cars you drive, houses you own, drinks you drink, foods you eat, television you watch, and thoughts you think. Shutting down the government would be bad for them.

Which states have the most blue laws again? Which states were the first to make conversion therapy illegal? Which states just recently had a large swath of voter ID laws struck down due to obvious racial profiling? Which states are forced to ask the federal government if it's OK to redistrict cause they have far too many instances of using the process to stifle minority representation in government?

I mean, none of those are as impactful as paying an extra quarter for a large soda so I can see why issues of actual substance just get glossed over in your tirade.
