This standing order of "infinity punishments, pretend they never did anything positive" is clearly not objective. Too often we villianize those who try to contextually discuss these things in measured ways, and I really hope to see more measured discussion soon.

Am I correct?

The majority of these allegations are complete jokes anyway. "Oh no an old guy touched your knee, let's ruin his life!"

Give a real life example of this happening.

Are you saying that their performances and contributions to entertainment should outweigh sexual misconduct

The general opinion right now seems to be get them taken out of power and expose their bullshit so they dont create more victims. Seems pretty fair.

And what should happen to them? You are removing all context and redfining people who have decade long careers and lives containing acts of great deceny as victim creators and nothing more. Do you allow and possible penance or sufficient punishment or does a single act of sexual misconduct forfeit thier human card?

But that isn't a response to what should happen if it was. To respond to questions about what is appropriate for X with ""well often it is Y" is just willfully ignoring the question. The question is what is fair? Given some circumstance is there a punishment that would be fair? Do men who behave inappropriately sexually deserve to have no careers and be treated like they have never done anything positive in their life?

Garrison Keeler's entire long career was removed from MPR's servers and it is as if none of it ever existed. Is this really appropriate? What about all the other people involved in those programs?

I am not saying there is nothing that should be done with these people but it is troubling that we are not having a discussion about what is and is not appropriate to be done.

Many people have successful careers and openly admit to crimes in their past. As a culture we have a system for what is a fair punishment for crimes, but when it comes to this sexual misconduct stuff it seems like the protocol is "treat them as a pariah that never contributed a positive thing to society, regardless of magnitude of their transgressions".

Can't we have a more nuanced and objective discussion about it? This mob justice seems flawed because there does not seem to be a clear sense of what "justice" is.
