People still do, because the meaning of the word is changing, much like many words. The fact that people seem to find this offensive is hilarious, both because they should be happy that their supposedly offensive slur is moving away from them, and the fact that people desperately need to stick to a word to describe themselves, as if their holy identity is centered around only one, single aspect of their lives.

Get over it and let the word change, because it will no matter how hard you try to keep it from doing so.

I've only got one friend who still uses that word to mean "lame," and we kinda forgive him because he's not the brightest bulb. I think everyone else around here stopped saying that in junior high once we got a better grasp of the language and once being gay wasn't so taboo anymore.

This foul mouthed friend of my son's got both my kids saying that. Even though I correct them and tell them not to. And that's not the worst thing they've heard from him.

The worst part of parenthood is your kid's friends.

In the early 2000s basically everything was "gay"

Pretty much all throughout high school playing CoD, I would excessively shout "YOU F****T" or "that's r*****ed"

I got to college and like the first time I started playing, I dropped an F-bomb (not fuck, the other one) and my roommate was like dude wtf

What I know is that some of the people I have seen complaining about this are also the people who have zero problems with the definition of 'literally' being changed to the literal opposite of the word and defend it with "well, language and words change over time."

I still do it sometimes and I hang out with a gay dude pretty regularly. In fact I've made some off color gay jokes around him, which he just takes in stride. So I mean... Sure be context sensitive, but that cuts both ways.
