I don't give money to people on the street and you get a fair number in San francisco. I just ignore them and tell them to fuck off if they keep following (which they usually don't)

I have given money to a guy with a sign that said "family kidnapped by ninjas, need money for karate lessons" outside the ballpark once.

And I'll buy food for people outside fast food places asking for food.

1. why do people care if a homeless person wants alcohol? are they not allowed to have a good time?
2. do people not realize that homeless people can have dietary needs and restrictions? they know what they need better than a stranger does.

Panhandlers are largely organized and not actually homeless. They're pimped out by an agency that distributes them to their spots and takes a cut of their earnings, and their earnings are generally a hell of a lot. And all tax free.

No joke in Vegas there was a homeless dude with a sign that read: kick me in the balls, $20

I laughed and was tempted but figured he didn't have balls or something. Some people were taking their picture with him, which I'm not sure if he asked for tips or not.

Yup. Its crazy but that pack of smokes or couple beers might be saving that persons life. If I have a few bucks and am in a good mood Ill give it to them, who am I to judge how someone lives their life. If I was in their shoes Id wanna be able to get a good sleep or forget how my life is for an hour or so.

That's actually a pretty good idea. Not many people would want to hurt someone that badly, no matter how funny it is (since a nut shot is like the pinnacle of lowbrow humor for dudes). And since the people would want to take pictures since the sign is funny, they would probably feel obligated to leave him some money which is probably more than the standard depressing "Please help" sign would get.

But still, there's always the risk that someone legitimately takes him up on that offer. You could say it's a...Ballsy move :3

This is why communication is important. While I think the homeless are being pricks complaining they're not getting their free cash when they were also served free food, but there is also an opportunity cost of them being able to earn money elsewhere that can't be taken back because of a miscommunication.

Depends on where you live for sure. Homeless people in major cities can usually dumpster dive to some degree. In NYC, you can actually eat pretty well if you're not afraid of digging thru the trash/looking sketch af - the main thing they face is weather/the elements, and of course security, etc. In more rural areas, I would guess homeless would be much more happy with food.

I was coming home from dinner over the summer with leftovers in hand, when a homeless man stopped me and said "I'm really hungry, do you think you can spare some change?" I told him he could have the leftovers, which were short ribs and a pop-up (they were fresh food, uneaten by anyone at the table). The guy paused for a second and said "FUCK YOU," then kept walking.

I love citing Breitbart because it's baiting the hook. The article CITES ITS SOURCES. It's low hanging fruit to find some fool who freaks out and goes HURR DURR BREITBART!! But I admit, I still like it. You didn't read the article, you saw the URL and threw a fit. You didn't even read the two other sources I listed. You think maybe I put the Breitbart link first for a reason, because your type are extremely predictable?

If this video that I just watched is 100% accurate went down exactly as portrayed, I think it's a very bad thing they led them on those buses with promises of $300.

Any view anyone holds about the homeless, or whatever---that's fine---you don't promise money, bus people around, and then say it's getting donated to a shelter.

What percentage of panhandlers are organized you would say? Most panhandlers around NYC and jersey city nj that I see are by themselves and look like they take directions from no one as some of them are drugged out.

as far as I'm concerned, linking to a Breitbart article is admitting defeat unless your purpose is showing how awful Breitbart is

there are plenty of places that cite their sources. there's no need to further de-legitimize everything you say by linking to a white supremacist fake news site
