Loved it as a teen. Probably my favourite game at the time.

How does the battle system hold up today? I imagine it feels pretty basic?

Still holds up. Only thing I dont like on replaying it is the summons. They're too long for their own good. :v I'm sure they were mindblowing back in 97 but nowadays I wish I could skip them.

absolutely. I actually played it for the 1st time in 2013, and it's one of my favorite games. You have to get used to Cloud's hoof-hands but the gameplay is fun and the story is still fresh/hilariously convoluted.

That game's a dinosaur. Just wait for the remake.

Think I've still got the original game discs. Does anyone know if it works on PS2?

I have not played it, but I played OoT recently which 100% holds up to modern times imo, and FFVII is often compared to OoT for which is better so I assume it aged similarly

The ps4/psp release is the best because of the cheats.

I've beaten the game legit so many times it's nice to just power through it when I just want the experience again.

I only do because I don't have the same time and attention span anymore.

I'm content speeding through just to get the nostalgia.

I'm in the middle of my first playthrough of it. It's a bit archaic, the character models especially can be pretty distracting. And it seems like it could've been written by some edgy kid, but it's kinda charming in a way. I'd say it still holds up well enough.

I doubt new gamers would like the turn-based nature. Graphically it didn't, like most early ps1 games as developers were still learning 3d modeling.

But I love it and play every few years.

As others have said. Graphically, fuck no. It's a hot mess. Nothing charming or nostalgic about it.
Everything else is great.

If they would have just done a re-master. But no. They decided to go in a tragic direction instead.

Whatever. Lots of things get lost to the ages.

Not really, especially not compared to final fantasy. And I'd be curious to knowing the age breakdown of its sales. I'd guess that it's largely people 25-35, like us, that grew up with them. But without data it's just my speculation.

But yes, there are still successful and profitable turn based rpgs.

Yea, I don't make a habit of using them. I might use them once or twice just to see them again or to be fancy in a boss fight, but most the time I just attack or cast spells.

Oh... but limit breaks are different. :v I think most of those are just the right length. Even omnislash is satisfying to watch. I think it is all the numbers popping up over and over that does it.
