Leave it at whichever one the summer one is, the one we just left. I hate when it gets dark at 5. I've been considering moving to Arizona and that's one nice thing about it there.

No, not all states. I believe Indiana doesn't follow it either.

I honestly don't mind it. It's nice in the summer when you can spend more time outdoors until later, and it's fine in the winter where you're not going to be spending time outside anyway, so might as well have it light during your drive to work in the morning.

I honestly don't care, it is in inconvenience twice a year, then it becomes an afterthought. If anything I would get rid of property taxes as those are an inconvenience just as often and actually cost money.

He didn't even make a defense after multiple posts. He just said I was wrong over and over again with no explanation. It was pretty sad. I mean it's Daylight Savings Time, not Logic Savings Time.

I hate how the question is always "keep DST or get rid of it?"

We spend MORE days of the year in DST than we do in supposedly "standard" time. The question should really be, "switch permanently to DST or not?"
To which I say yes! I love having the extra sunlight in the evening and it's super depressing to leave work and it's already pitch dark. I don't care if it's bright in the morning or not, if anything...I'd welcome not having the glare of the rising sun in my eyes when I'm trying to drive to work, barely awake.

The idea isn't that the day is longer, you're just changing what times of day you have daylight for.

It is called Daylight Savings Time. Think about what the word "savings" mean... you don't save daylight by changing the times. It is the same amount of daylight regardless of what time the daylight is observed.

Correct, it's saving daylight for the times when people are expected to be awake and thus able to utilize it.

But it doesn't save more daylight, for them or anyone.

It screws up your circadian rhythm, increases the amount of driving and on-work accidents during the period of the switch, increases the risk of suicides during the period of the switch, likely causes various negative long term health effects, and numerous recent studies show that it actually increases electricity usage despite one of the intended goals of it being to reduce it. It's a terrible practice.

Yeah, you and everyone else saying this. We know.

It's not about getting more sunlight hours. It's about shifting when we get them.

Saving =/= "getting more of something" necessarily. If you shut off a battery-powered light source or device when not using it to "save" battery life, you're not getting more battery life. You're getting more of it when you actually want to have it.

I can't believe this needed a PSA, but fucking shit all these comments criticizing the name...

Daylight doesn't drain like a battery to have to be recharged later. That is not what Daylight Savings Time does. So your analogy makes no sense in this context and is stupid. I can't believe you needed to say something stupid too.

Get rid of time zones too. Just have the entire world on the same time. It would seem a little weird at first but in the end it would simplify so much.

No. Observe how the times of sunrise and sunset literally change each day, because the length of each day is also changing. https://www.timeanddate.com/sun/new-zealand/auckland?month=9

Daylight savings starting here is useful because it means when you get to December, you don't have sunrise before 5am, when few people are awake https://www.timeanddate.com/sun/new-zealand/auckland?month=12 It shifts back in April because we'd otherwise have sunrise at 8:30 am, and most people want to start their days before that.

As was stated earlier, it's about maximising the the daylight for times you're awake.
