I would guess that the average person ate a more nutritious, well balanced diet. But have you gone to restaurants that were started a long time ago and never update their menu? There are a lot fewer of them from the 50s to now, but we know so much more about food and flavor and all of that now. Good food now would be OMG THIS IS SO FUCKING AMAZING food in the 50s.

Fixed for what modern women want

I can't imagine women, minorities, or gay people would like that too much....but I think we would be a lot better off if some of the 1950's mentality came back. Way too much "me first, give it to me, I have a RIGHT" mindset these days.

Hmm. I love the flapper girl looks from the 20s. I love 80's power shoulders and the power hair. Even the sixties does a slightly more fun interpretation of the fifties fashion with some more diverse looks on the fringe.

Right now though, I think I'm most in love with modern minimalist fashions.

Okay, I did neglect to mention my love of gals in business suits as well. Which I know came before the 50's but not hugely popular until later as women more and more entered the work force in professional setting. Nothing hotter than a posh mature gal in a business suit and heels. omfg

But I agree that I like the minimalist aspect about women's dresses and skirts from the 50's.

I not sure that's a skirt, or at least I didn't think it was when I posted it. They looked to me like really voluminous and billowing pants. I wish I knew the name of that style so I could find a better image to share.

I agree that it is ugly. Gals can still be sexy in pants or shorts, just not those pants or shorts. That looks like something pinky0926 would look for in a gal being a hipster and all.

The image of a perfect 1950's is just a collective memory not really based in reality. It was a period of great upward mobility for a great number of people, particularly returning veterans, but that was part and parcel with people contrasting it with the horrors of war in the 40s and deep depression in the 30s. It was also far from universal, as widespread poverty was still a major issue, the notion of single income earners supporting a family was actually comparatively limited, blacks and homosexuals had limited to no rights, and any number of other issues that get swept aside in a collective nostalgia for a 50's era sitcom living.

Plus, c'mon.... with our attention spans, do you really want to go back to the era of basically no instant access to entertainment?
