That's why I've never bothered to invest time in to them.

For the longest, I've wanted to sink some weeks into EVE, but that shit requires dedication to the utmost. I have a small business to run. I ain't got time fo' dat.

I have a friend who plays WoW. I'm assuming he still does but haven't spoken to him in several years.

Anyway, I roomed with him for a few years in college and you'd mostly have never guessed it.

You don't have to play 24/7... My last raid leader literally only ever logged in to raid which was like 9-10 hours perk week tops.

Well that's only when you've grinder out to max and have nothing else to do. I'm sure dude put in a ton of time before he got to the point he had nothing left to do but daily raids

This is why I swore off them. If I'm going to play something like that, I want the best shit. Takes a lot of investment. All those late nights in highschool on WoW. Can't do it anymore.

I played a little bit of DUCO, but after the first like two dungeons I noticed the difficulty curve greatly outpaced the growth curve and it was like "I can see where this is going" so I stopped playing.

Sure, I could've dropped a few bucks to buy the upgrades they wanted me to buy, or spent several hour grinding but honestly I didn't care that much about the adventures of Amber Archer that much.

when i played WoW while working full time after college:

often what id do is wake up early in the morning and knock out my dailies while having coffee and breakfast. i know this sounds pathetic but i actually really enjoyed it, because it'd give me time to wake up and it was kind of nice to have some time to myself before work.

then when i'd get home, some days i'd log on and play a little more, if i didn't have anything else to do. some days i'd play a lot, others i didn't even log on at all. I also was not really playing any other video games at the time, so any gaming time I had went directly to WoW.

i was in a guild that raided twice a week. i purposely joined a more "casual" guild that wasn't obsessed with progress and just wanted to have fun. there is an in-game calendar in WoW and you can sign up for raids on there, and so i'd know my schedule and raid when i could make it. I think it was Tuesday / Thursday nights from like 10 to 12, so it wasn't invasive, and if I knew i had plans with my girlfriend or something on Thursday I would just take that day off.

not really a big deal as long as you dont play other games. i honestly miss raiding in WoW, it was probably the most satisfying thing ive ever done in a video game

most of the popular MMOs can be played with only like an hour per day

the hard part is juggling multiple MMOs or trying to fit in a lot of time in other games while still maintaining your progress in the MMO

That. I was, I guess, "hardcore" in WoW in vanilla and BC, but just came back again recently and play super casually. It's not hard, and aside from starting to get burnt out again due to not having anyone to play with, for the most part, it's pretty enjoyable to just jump on for a few hours every now and then.

People who like to waste time on pointless shit with no kids, a not demanding job, or no much of a social life are the MMO crowd.

I rather play a meaningful single player games where your time is spent actually acomplishing something, has a begining and an end, that is not houndreds of hours wasted on a game that means nothing at the end of the day.

Knew a guy who played FFXI, played for years and while I blew through SP games he was addicted to one game that he kept having to pay for every month while I got new and different games. I could put down and pick up any game I wanted, he was a literal slave to the MMO and it got so bad he dedicated atleast 2 hrs to FFXI even during times when school overwhelmed him so he did not fall behind in the game.

when i got addicted to a mmo, i had the excuse of saving money as i worked. I still casually went out but when i wasnt at work or partying, my freetime for hours was playing a mmo. I had 1 and 2 year subscriptions and the best way to make sure i get my moneys worth was logging in and playing. Oh... i did get my savings well over my expectations. I just really made my life simple. Work party game Repeat.

I changed jobs and didnt really play much after that. My friends and guild left the game while i still played it. The game just wasnt the same again quite honestly. Missed them and playing became rather melancholy. I just tried to not think about it and shut off my mind in a sense. Felt like i lived 2 lives...

I still play mmo but a different game. I just make the time these days. I just cant play longer than an hour without feeling like i got something else better to do.
I enjoy mmo im playing. Its black desert online. Its just there. All i do is park alts at world bosses and IF im on, i see if i can win some boss loot. I log in, do some crop farming to keep fence active for the week, gather logs, maybe hunt, and afk for rewards, attendance, daileys and weeklys. Its real casual for me. No pressure to leading raids or worrying about guild attendance - easy peasey. I can probably play mmos like this from on.

Not being addicted to an MMO and not being a slave to an MMO already makes me better, my life does not revolve around games or any one game.

Being a nerd has not hindered me in my job or my relationships either.

you don't HAVE to be a top tier raider. I have this problem with my brother. he thinks like some of you guys, and refuses to even try MMO's cause he has it in his head that the only way to play is to be hardcore. I just want to causally go through a game with him and quest. but he refuses. I think we would have fun playing Old Republic as a duo. but I can't get him to do it. it really fucking sucks

but you can play MMOs without being a slave to them now :v the old model is out, the new casual model is in. I play FF XIV and still find time to play other games too. You're missing out!

@OpheliaAdenade

I am not missing out, I like a story driven game that has a start and finish, no MMO actually has an ending for their story nor does any MMO effect the lore of a series.

WOW will never make an impact in the main Warcraft story, TOR is a terrible blight on the KOTOR lore, and FFXI has been long forgotten by most with no connection to any other game.

MMOs are pointless time wasters, MP matches are more rewarding.

Destiny and Destiny 2 are perfect examples, I know a person who plays them and he told me that in Destiny 2 the heroes of the first game people played as in the first game are killed off at the start, nothing except a name plate carries over if you were a big destiny 1 player. In a SP game your actions impacted the world, you can sometimes transfer choices, and what you did actually had weight.

Mass Effect, KOTOR, Gears of War, Assassins Creed, and Metro are all single player games that prove this.
