Also LGBT people had the same rights as straight people before SSM. They too could marry a person of the opposite sex. Now everyone has gained an additional right: the ability to marry someone of the same sex. If you legislate against same sex marriage you are taking a right away from everyone not just LGBT people.

What? No.

CWZ2z30

I was talking about marriage specifically.

You're still wrong about your statement. There was not marriage equality prior to 2015. Saying that gay people could marry someone of the opposite sex is not equality.

That is an equal right. And the right to marriage someone of the opposite sex was equally denied.

Indeed, for most of Western civilization, marriage had very little to do with attraction or love at all.

I'm not sure why you think that.

If you look at the Romans, marriages of love were considered a rarity. It was always political. Much the same for the medieval period when politics and inheritances were a huge consideration.

No that is not an equal right.

Any reason why? Marriage itself doesnt require attraction or love. It's a governmental contract.

This isn't 30 B.C. In today's world, in most Western cultures, marriage is about love and attraction.

My comment was about most of Western civilization in the past, hence the use of the past tense. Not how it is in the present. Try again.

Do they campaign against gay people or gay marriage?

They lobby against equal rights for LGBT.

So they don't campaign against gay people. They believe gay marriage is some sort of unholy union.

I'd like to know what rights you are talking about. Marriage isn't an inalienable right. Besides gay marriages aren't banned or illegal. So it don't even matter.

Without fail when someone starts saying "You people..." it always ends up with some ass-backwards statements.

Who is being a bigot in this topic, exactly?

And of course many of us will combat your statements that you've made. You're trying to say things like LGBT have had equal rights prior to 2015, even though that's still not the case today. Or arguing some obscure concept that because a gay person could have technically married a person of the opposite sex that somehow translates to equality.

Are you high?

No, it's just obvious that you don't understand what the word equality means, and just twist the word to whatever pleases you based on arbitrary changing goalposts.

Except it isn't equal rights prior to 2015 because one group had a set of rights, the other did not. Both groups are qualified for marriage, yet only one group had the right.

That's just blatantly false. Many homosexuals used that right and have for millenia, just like many loveless heterosexuals have, as well as asexual people. Because marriage is just a contract that grants certain benefits.

OK, so to confirm, you feel "Blacks had equal rights to marry", even if they couldn't marry inter racially, because they had the option to marry other black people? I'm not trying to put words in your mouth, asking for your confirm how you would phrase it. A good way to elaborate would be the other instances you describe - what is an instance in which you "feel black people were denied actual equal rights in other ways"?
