I believe the original inhabitants were black. Why? Because the desert barrier was not always there and their direct neighbors to the south (the Nubians) were dark skinned. As ancient Egypt grew into power it became more mixed due to its location as a major hub in the region.

Officially, no. But the people of Kush were, and the two civilizations interacted enough that you'd have seen black people in Egypt. Probably some biracial kids too if I had to guess.

I did always think the statues and stuff from that time had vaguely black facial structures (especially the noses) though.

Not sure what being "black" means in this case. They were Egyptians and thus Africans. Black folk come in a variety of skin tones.

It looks like officially, no one knows the extent of what races were dominant (see the wiki article), but it looks like for the most part they were closest to Israelis and Jordanites.

https://www.nature.com/news/mummy-dna-unravels-ancient-egyptians-ancestry-1.22069

The study, published on 30 May in Nature Communications1, includes data from 90 mummies buried between 1380 bc, during Egypts New Kingdom, and ad 425, in the Roman era. The findings show that the mummies closest kin were ancient farmers from a region that includes present-day Israel and Jordan. Modern Egyptians, by contrast, have inherited more of their DNA from central Africans.

Archaeological discoveries and historical documents suggest close ties between Egypt and the Middle East,

They were J2s (Y-DNA).

There was a recent genetic study on the most ancient of Greeks and Minoans and they were also found to be J2s.

J2s essentially founded civilization as we know it.

Also it's pretty telling that Ancient Egypt is the only ancient civilisation with this controversy. Nobody questions the race of the Ancient Romans or the Ancient Chinese.

Some of that's due to Afrocentrism. No serious modern Egyptologists ever considered Egyptians to be white. Hollywood casting agents, on the other hand......

Ramsese III was definitely black based on his Y-DNA.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ramesses_III

Usimare Ramesses III (also written Ramses and Rameses) was the second Pharaoh of the Twentieth Dynasty and is considered to be the last monarch of the New Kingdom to wield any substantial authority over Egypt. His long reign saw the decline of Egyptian political and economic power, linked to a series of invasions and internal economic problems.

There is no doubt that some Ancient Egyptians were black. It would very weird if there were not some. I think the consensus is, most were not, though.

"most" still depends on what period. because kingdoms were literally destroyed.

It's hard to know, but they most likely were, but also were likely to have a mix of people from parts of the Mediterranean and Middle East. So they'd have Babylonian, Greek, Roman, Israeli, Persian, Saracen/Arabian, Nubian and Malinese DNA migration into the population. But very early on, it's likely that they were darker skinned.
