A genre I've always wanted to get into but just never played. I'm playing Arkham Asylum and the best part is easily picking off guards without being detected. I feel like using the gargoyles and attacking from above is more practical but I find myself crawling around and whatnot because it's more fun. Only complaint I have is that, as Batman, you feel more in control, like you're the predator that the enemies need to be afraid of. Cool dynamic, but I'd rather be on the underdog side of things. What are some good 2D and 3D stealth games to look into? Besides the obvious Metal Gear.

Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory is my favorite. Mark of the Ninja is second and after that I don't really like stealth games.

I think you'd really dig the Dishonored series if you like the feeling of being a silent, mobile predator. You have magic abilities and can teleport around the place so it might not be completely what you're looking for. You still need to play really smart though.

Splinter Cell Chaos Theory has aged pretty well. That feels very grounded compared to all the stealth games but it's still pretty accessible. Blacklist is a bit more mobile and action movie-ish but is still solid.

The Hitman series is a social stealth game. Instead of sneaking around in the dark it's about using the right disguises and creating the right opportunities to make your way to a target to assassinate. It's a very unique series. Blood Money and Hitman 2016 are both good places to start.

Hitman HD Trilogy. The gameplay hasn't aged great, but Hitman 2 was probably my favorite stealth game overall.

The first Manhunt was awesome too.

Metal Gear is by far the best, nothing compares when it comes to stealth gameplay.

Hitman is ok though.

Stealth is pretty sweet in Skyrim, since you gain XP from sneaking around.

2>Gold>DS.

But they're all good and a lot of fun. 2 feels like they designed the levels first and then put a story to it. Lots of ways to explore, and interesting situations and levels. The worst part is near the end of the game, you do (almost) the same level twice, which is lame.

I have all those Thief games (including the middling 2014 game), so I'll have to play 'em at some point. Heard plenty of good things.

I'll try Dishonored since it's on PS4 (basically I have a 3DS, PS4, Vita, a non-gaming laptop and plan on getting a Switch). Also, how is Alien Isolation? I like the feeling in games of feeling helpless and trying to survive, rather than being the predator. I'll also play Last of Us, which apparently has stealth elements. As of right now I have no way of playing the MGS franchise that I'm happy with.

Alien Isolation definitely gives that feeling of being hunted and hiding to survive. Getting into a confrontation is a constant risk.

On that note, there's also the Clock Tower series and its successor, Haunting Ground.

Never really thought of them as stealth games, but you do spend most of the game running and hiding.

Haunting Ground is more of a deadly game of Hide and Seek, rather than stealth.
