It was okay, but not $6-a-month okay. If CBS doesn't have enough faith in the show to run it on the network, I see no reason why I should have enough faith in the show to pay another subscription fee to watch it.

If it shows up on OTA CBS, or when it pops up on one of the subscription services I'm paying for already, maybe I'll give it a go. As is, this is nothing special, and not even as good a "trek" as Orville, which Fox (yes, sci-fi hating fox) does have enough faith in to run over the air.

So this is actually good?

I might try to find some way to watch it then. >_>

Judging from the first episode, it's not really worth bothering with "some way" at all.

Giving everyone equal rights regardless of gender, skin color, and sexual or religious orientation is great. But sometimes it seems like that isn't good enough for some people.

No. I don't know what TC is talking about since there was a review embargo and 99% of all reviews weren't even provided a review copy. There weren't any reviews out yet except from people deep in CBS's pocket.

The first episode drags and is undoubtedly the worst Trek pilot I've ever seen. The sets and effects look great, but the script is horrible. It's no wonder that Bryan Fuller jumped ship and got the fuck out.

LMAO no. TNG and DS9 pilots while setting up the story are boring AF. At least this pilot had some legit action.

I have high hopes for the series, hopefully CBS allows it to shine.

Based on the promo material, it was pretty obvious that they were going to kill off the captain pretty early and have the first officer take over. Wasn't a surprise at all. Not sure why articles about the episode are all, "shocker" "twist" "suprise" "unexpected"

Doesn't that not happen?

I thought the first officer continues to be a suboridinate on the new ship under Captain Bad Guy From The Patriot.

Anyway, I liked and disliked the show in equal amounts. I feel like it has a lot of potential. I think the script, acting, and editing of this first episode was pretty awful. Amazing special effects for a TV show.

I feel like the episode would have been better if we had zero Klingon scenes. It would have both cut out boring scenes, and also made the Klingon ship a lot more mysterious, would have left the viewer wondering what the hell was going on just like the Federation crew must have been wondering. Spelling it all out takes away from the intrigue.

Ok, finished the 2 parter or whatever:

So guyname chick is awful, and Yeoh never got better at acting, she never sounded like her line readings were organic.

Also, Pro-tip: If you want somebody's death to be a shock, don't put their actress's name in the credits under "special guest star"

Final point: I don't at all buy that it was at all a fair fight between 2 uber-warrior klingons and these 2 women. I know gurl power and all that but the ONLY way these women would out fight these BEASTLY KLINGON WARRIORS if they had like mad physical combat skills, like amazing dodges and maneuvering, but if you watch the pretty much exchange punches and hits as if they are equals, with the powerpuff girls not doing anything to excuse why they aren't getting game of thrones the mountained instantly. That part really bugged me.

Even if they were super buff men they shouldn't be even stevens with uber-klingons in a fight.

Watched the first episode.

Was nice. Not amazing, but nice. Campy, but that's kind of what I expect from Star Trek so no matter. Head science officer guy is cool, but I hope they characterize the captain a bit better than "female Picard."

Still, it left me willing to try out the second episode. That's better than I can say for most shows.

I'd like it more if they discovered some new colours and dropped the obnoxious lens flair and canted angles. I'm sure it's not a cheap show but it looks hideous. Michelle yeoh was cool at least...

Hell, the klingons are more sympathetic than the humans.
The skittish alien guy better not get killed off anytime soon, though.

That's been an issue with Trek canon for a long time. There's no way fat Kirk or Picard should be able to take on a Klingon warrior hand-to-hand, yet they always do. In fact, any alien that's not a Vulcan somehow is worse than humans at fighting even when they shouldn't be.
