Imagine the look on their faced when a) they cant play it and b) when they find a VHS player they realize the video quality is shitty.

See, I dont know if its new or used.

Knowing his aunt, it might be a .99 cent thrift store gift. But if its sealed and brand new it would likely sell for some money, sure. I don't get the appeal in buying VHS tapes like that, because VHS is inferior to DVD and blu-ray in almost every way. Sometimes older media, like vinyl, is still popular because it sounds on par if not better than CDs and digita music.

even used it could probably sell decently if in good condition. I mean not like make a fortune off of it, but definitely more than what it should be worth.

eh some people are collectors others are oddities that prefer older even if crappier stuff, probably for nostalgia reasons. I mean people buy used comic books all the time and don't even read them. they just care that its in good condition and in their collection.

not doubting that. just saying afterwhile to where she wouldn't even notice he doesn't have it anymore might as well sell it if he ain't gonna use it.

Like 10 years ago when vhs/dvd combos were still kinda common, my nephew was visiting and liked Black Sheep when he watched it so we we're gonna watch it again a few days later and told him just a second we have to rewind it, you should have seen the shocked look on his face "You mean you have to wait?"

Yeah. As a music example, there's a difference between buying an album on vinyl, which still has it's place in the music world (some would argue that a pristine vinyl sounds better than any other format) versus buying it on audio cassette, which at this point would just be for novelty.

The value in cassettes today isnt just novelty(though that is a big part). its ridiculously easy to transfer music from one cassette to another.

The only way a VHS would sell for a lot of $ is if it was a rarity or if the film itself has never seen release on another home media format. Something tells me you can find at least 10 copies of Top Gun at any flea market.

Here's something you probably never knew existed. Apparently you can actually store about 30gb of digital data on a VHS tape.

Vinyl is a less accurate reproduction of the original recording and degrades over time. I've never understood why people have such a strong nostalgia for obviously inferior technology.

Yeah someone else gets it. Vinyl is a horrible format, let's make something that gets shittier each time used until the disc wears out, sound like crap due to needle on vinyl and be stationary at all times. Shithead hipsters

Vinyl does degrade over time, that is true, but sounds horrible? Thats one I almost never hear. Though it depends on a variety of factors as to how it would sound.

But its true, people like vinyl because it isnt completely useless such as a VHS tape are. VHS has no redeeming qualities really. Even if you dont agree vinyl sounds good, you still in a lot of cases when buying new albums get a digital download card included, in addition to that, large album artwork and large lyrics sheet. Thats mainly why I collect vinyl. I like music a lot, and when I buy it i'd rather get the one with nice artwork in a bigger package.

VHS would totally burn my eyes out. Records are only acceptable audio quality if played thru a proper tube amp and a full range of speakers. I defiantly would not unshrinkwrap an album if I ended up with one, long term value, and end up with a digital copy. That being said I've bought maybe 3 CD's in the past 12 years, same with movies, I have pacific rim and star treks... Lol

Most VHS tapes are really cheap so that's understandable. Although with that said you can probably get the DVD or perhaps Blu-ray version for not that much more. Still providing the folk she gives VHS tapes to still have VHS players it's the thought that counts I guess.

actually with the times i've used a record player, it does have this distinct sound to it over other forms of audio. but I kinda liked it, gave it this old timey feel imo but then again the records and record player I was using was older than me. i'm assuming they where both from the 70s.
