I have one but I don't ever really let the money I owe add up and usually pay it all in one go every time.

I mostly got it for security so if my card info ever gets stolen (like online or in a store) they're not directly getting my money

I've wanted to get one and look up a guide on how to use it effectively, because I know it's possible.

Just can't be bothered to try. Debit works.

How to use it effectively?

Swipe card. Pay off before due date. Literally easier and safer than debit FFS

I've never had a credit card, and will likely never get one. My sister has had them, and handles them poorly.

The credit union I'm a member of issues debit cards, so I have one of those. Other than this I have purchased pre-paid Visas or Mastercards for online purchases (mostly Amazon).

but if you pay it off every month then it doesn't cost you more right? even with a high apr?

yeah as long as you pay it off every month interest shouldnt affect you. keeping the utilization at around 15-20 percent is the best way to improve your score though

you should still get one dude under those circumstances, just pay it off all the time and your credit limit may slowly go up

that's why I avoided them too. i saw what bad credit did to my parents. you just have to use them correctly. all you have to do in the beginning is use about 30-40% of the limit and then pay it off for a few months and keep doing it. most new cards do come with a 12 month no APR thing. by the time the 12 months is up your credit score should improve

Honestly just a few months using it is enough. I still have a $500 limit on my very first card (only increase with a HP since it's from the credit union so I just use it once every few months and will never raise it), but only needed a few months to get my second.

yeah ruin your life, probably real hard to get your credit up back good if you have a bad credit history or have actually declared bankruptcy in the past.

Same here. I finally got a credit card 6 months ago and I'm nearly 29. Citi Double Cash which gives me 2% cash back on all purchases, no annual fee, and no interest for first 12 months. Also they have an awesome mobile app. I've already made $275 cash back. Couldn't be happier with it.

I am extremely good at saving up money (not making it unfortunately though) so I just pay for everything I want up front.
I would have no use for a credit card, even in an emergency I would just turn to my savings.

I have a credit card and have racked up over 100k in points based on my use. That equates to over $1,000 cash or up to ~$1,300 if I redeem for travel. Currently has a $0 balance.

Treat your credit card like a debit card and it literally becomes free money.
